my ex won't return my house and car keys?
I'm in the UK. My ex won't give me back my car and house keys. What is my legal position on this. I have written to him and text him to ask for them. He is completely ignoring me. I only have the spare car key, he has the fob. I want to sell the car. It's mine. Also, I don't want him coming into my house, using my keys. He lives somewhere else.
Also, there is LOADS of his stuff at my house, which I've asked him to collect. No response. He has emotionally and mentally abused me. Would the police help me??

Well, your ex can make all the copies he wants of your keys.
Change the locks on your house, it's cheap, it's a quick job and only you will have the keys.
It's very expensive to change the locks on a car. Sell it as soon as possible before he starts damaging it and lowering the value. Don't even tell him you're selling it.
After you change the locks on your place, send a certified letter to your ex with 3 dates and times to pick up his stuff, make sure it's a time when he's off work and has a couple of hours to get his stuff; send a copy of the letter to your local police dept by mail; and let them know in person or over the phone that you need them to be there while he gets his stuff.
Make sure you contact them and let them know who you are. That way your ex has to be accountable if he threatens you or mistreats you in any way.
In the US he has 3 chances to get his stuff, or else it is abandoned and no longer his property.

Phone the police and ask them.
I would also suggest reporting the car as stolen.
If he absolutely refuses to come and get his stuff from your house by a certain date which you will have informed him of by solicitor's letter, you can change the locks on your house (so he can't get in) and bring that stuff down to a charity and give it to them. Make sure that he is told clearly in the letter that if he doesn't come and get his property by a certain date, you will be giving it to charity because you will assume that he doesn't want it anymore.

check but I think you send him a leter recorded deliverly and say to collect him stuff in 30 days or it will be disposed of and return your keys or face legal procedings, he might be hanging on so not to loos that link with you, break it be firm and clear, save and emails you sent and copies of letters and prof of posting from post office for leeters get the signed for so he can say you didnt warn him, or bag his stuff up and take it to his mums and ask her to talk to him, get legal advise or ask police harsh but put a stop to it now before it get hard, what would happen if you got a new man how complicated would that be? ring ciztisans advice

Phone him up and tell him if he doesn't give you what's yours
you will phone the cops and say he's unwilling to give your keys back to you so you want to charge him with theft.
And then get an court injunction to stop him coming round to your house and threatening you.
give his stuff to a charity shop.

Being as you are female the police are far more likely to help you than him.
