Is Obama really any different than Bush was?
See below before you jump to your answer. Please, no knee-jerk responses.
Six months ago yesterday, Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th president of the United States.
The election of Obama represented a popular repudiation of the Bush administration and its domestic and foreign policies. The principal slogan of Obama—“change you can believe in”—struck a chord with a population fed up with eight years of war and single-minded focus on the interests of the corporate elite.
Obama’s persona and individual history symbolized, for broad sections of the working class and youth, this desire for change. The fact that Obama would be the first African-American president was seen by many as reason to believe he would instinctively sympathize with the poor and oppressed. In any case, it was thought, he would be very different from what had come before.
What evaluation can be made in light of six months’ experience? The facts speak for themselves. On every critical issue, Obama—presiding over substantial Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress—has continued the basic policy of his predecessor.

I see that the knee-jerk liberals jumped to the conclusion before READING the article or even the first part of the article. The fact is that in terms of POLICIES, Obama has not brought anything like "CHANGE"--let alone "change (anyone but the oligarchy) can believe in."
Incidentally, I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican.
Read the article, Dark Angel. Obama does condone torture, spying on citizens, indefinite detentions and WAR. He's extended and intensified the war(s), not ended them. You are not paying attention.
Democratic rights:
On all essentials, the Obama administration has continued the policies of its predecessor. It has invoked “state secrets” to block court cases challenging torture and domestic spying. The administration reversed a promise to release photos showing US torture of detainees. It has continued the military tribunals and indicated it plans to adopt a policy of indefinite detention for prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.
Obama has repeatedly insisted that there will be no prosecution of any of the crimes carried out by the Bush administration. This means no one will be held accountable and that the crimes will continue.
Of course, I know what a plutocracy is.

I absolutely love your point of view. Finally, I see someone who understands! I wish I had more time to pour out my ideas about this sensible issue. But, lets just keep it as short as possible:
Obama or Bush or Mccain, it does not make a difference at all! Why? because democracy is nothing but a veil, designed and installed by the capitalist superpowers to bring about and sustain the ILLUSION OF CHOICE for the ignorant people who believe in it. Very little, if anything will be "achieved" during Obama's presidency and the few things that will be changed will ultimately reverse back when the conservatives invade the government. You see what democracy does? NOTHING! and thats what it's supposed to do. We are just in a never ending tug-of-war game that swings both ways every now and then, resulting in a government that essentially does nothing, therefore its existence DOES NOT MATTER. And that is what capitalism is all about: Making people believe they have all the "God Given Rights" they want and the power to vote (!), while the corporates who run, and influence everything can enjoy a sheltered and safe environment to collect and stack up on power and money. Does anything serious ever get done in the Congress, the House or any other branch of this system? No they just stall and stall until the next guys get there. Obama is just a figure representing hope to make us feel better. There's always periods of 4 to 8 years when the government rages war and comes out and does whatever it wants to further shelter the mighty businesses. After that, because everyone has lost their faith in their government, a fresh and new face comes along with bright ideas and a promise of a better tomorrow, only to keep people in their place. This trend has happened over and over in American history. In this case it's Obama. All the promises and all the hope? It's all bullshit! Democracy is the civil way to manipulate a mass number of people by keeping them in a bubble and giving them imaginary rights, so that they don't interfere with whatever the real corporate powers want to do.

I see Obama as an essentially decent man, albeit misguided and ill-advised. Bush on the other hand was essentially a lying psychopathic degenerate.
Policy wise, eh, not that much difference, except Obama does not practice "cowboy diplomacy", he's more subtle and has far better etiquette and manners.
But change? What change? The banks haven't been nationalized, credit and mortgage companies continue with their abuses and usury, workers continue to be unprotected against employer abuses, Chinese products continue to flood the market, factories continue to lay idle, foreclosures continue, layoffs continue, which means more homelessness, more unemployment. A lot of this he can put a stop to immediately with executive orders and emergency powers.
It's a good thing we don't have to fight a guy like Hitler nowadays, we would be sure to lose because people would complain about expenses and lack of "freedoms" because butter, sugar, flour and coffee was rationed and you couldn't buy a car or a refrigerator.
In America the game has been canceled because they can't find the balls for any kind of sport.

a million. Obama did no longer locate Osama, SEAL team 6 and the CIA did. 2. Obama and Bush are distinctive simply by ideologies they each and each have, i individually like Bush a ton extra suitable then Obama in basic terms simply by fact Obama's suggestions are extra suitable suitable for a good financial equipment 3. Bush began the war simply by fact he knew that the yankee human beings might prefer justice and in spite of the indisputable fact that it wasn't a universal determination, extra human beings could have been indignant if we hadn't long gone to war. 4. ultimately: Bush and Obama are victims of the politics in Washington, they are able to't be blamed for being compelled to make judgements they have not got the prefer to make in basic terms simply by fact of a few political lobbyist needs them to

The subtle differences really don't matter. Obama wants higher taxes. Bush wanted higher taxes deferred to some later magical time when nobody would mind (?). They both want to spend more than we can ever repay. They both love the pointless wars and the GWOT. They both work for the same bosses at the CFR and Federal Reserve. The Obama honeymoon is over. Most of us now see what your article conveys. I wish more of us had done our homework BEFORE the election. Oh well, 4 more years... again.

If Bush was still in charge, not much would be different. Judging by Bush's desire to give Paulson a blank check with no accountability to bailout the banks, he might have also bailout GM.
I don't think Bush would be pushing for Healthcare reform.
We would still have massive spending, the same foreign policy, the same stymying of civil liberties, erosion of the dollar, lobbyist in the cabinet, lies coming from Washington, and an ever growing government.

This is truly a sad statement on the state of journalism in the US today. That the question "How is Obama different from Bush?" even needs to be posed -- much less discussed -- is truly insulting to the intelligence of the waning viewers that these guys get.
Hmmm....let me count the ways: One's a divisive ideologue who has risen to undeserved levels of status given his personal mediocrity and intellectual laziness due to his connections versus one who believes in a post-partisan government that gets things done who has had to overcome many personal obstacles to achieve great levels based on intelligence, charisma and hard work. I can totally see why the public would need this clarified.
The thing that continues to be so frustrating is the continued post facto admissions by the Villagers as to the deficits that we've had over the last eight years with Bush. Sure, now that he is two months away from walking out of the White House for the last time, we can admit that the world hates us and doesn't want to work with Bush, as Katty Kay does, or that he is stupid (to put a more honest term to Woodward and Borger's "intellectually incurious) and finds the whole "understanding other people's points of view" boring.
But where were they for the last four years? Where was their outrage and coverage of this then? How many soldiers' lives could we have saved if the media had been more honest about Bush? How many poor Iraqi civilian lives? Time and time again, the media abdicates their role in presenting context and in this case, their acceptance of the catapulted propaganda has led the country to the brink of ruin. And yet they feel no culpability. Instead, they treat us to these faux-hard hitting dialogues comparing and contrasting Obama to Bush. Brilliant.

The only presidents who were not the same were assassinated except Andrew Jackson who "killed the Bank". He lived a very charmed life and his killing of the Bank war short lived.

Yes, he does not recognize that freedom is an integral part of the USA.
Bush did what he did because he had to.
You think Gore or Kerry would have allowed us any more freedom?
Obama uses Bush policies, such as in Iraq and Afghanistan to his advantage. All that he has "changed" from Bush are abject failures.

The main difference is Obama spends a heck of a lot more!
If funny (not haha) that the only areas where Obama isn't down in the polls is for Afghanistan and he's stayed with Bush's policies. When you looks at actual Obama policies, he's tanked!
Source(s): Obama is not my fault!
