HELLO . asked in TravelAsia PacificKorea · 1 decade ago

how do you pronounce big bang members' names (korean)?

First of all if it's Kang Dae-Sung, is the surname after the first name?

And how do you pronounce their names? :

Kwon, Ji-Yong

Dong, Young-Bae

Kang, Dae-Sung

Lee, Seunghyun

Choi, Seung-Hyun

thank you very much.

In Korea people usually place their surname first then their given name (both in writing and when introducing themselves).

Most of their names are pronounced how they are spelt, but I'll try to break it down as best I can.

    권지용 Kwon Ji Yong

Kwon : the o is pronounced more like an 'awww' sound.

Ji : just like how it's spelt 'ji/jee'

Yong : the o is pronounced like 'oh'

    동영배 Dong Young Bae

Dong : the o is pronounced like 'oh'

Young : the ou is pronounced like 'awww'. You can also just pronounce it like the english word 'young', it's close enough.

Bae : like the word "bay"

    강대성 Kang Dae Sung

Kang : the ang isn't like that of english (i.e. bang), but more like an 'ah' sound.

Dae : like the word 'day'

Sung : the u is pronounced like 'aww'. Almost like the word 'song'.

    이승현 Lee Seung Hyun

Lee : just like how it's spelt, though in korean they don't pronounce the L

Seung : I'm not exactly sure how to describe the 'eu' sound. It's like your teeth are almost closed, relax your mouth with your lips parted a little, and almost saying 'ehh'. It's like how you would pronounce the chinese surname Sung.

Hyun : the u is again pronounced like 'awww'. It's like saying 'young' but with only the 'n' sound at the end instead of 'ng', then add the 'h' to the beginning and you have 'hyun'

    최승현 Choi Seung Hyun

Choi : the oi is like saying 'oh-eh', if you say it faster it'll sound like 'weh'... so Ch-weh.

And SeungHyun is the same as above.

    I hoped this helped!
