He can try to prop a pillow under his knees when he sleeps taking off the pressure of the lower waist. He can lean up against a wall and push his back against the wall several times and repeat which helps to release some pressure on the lower back too. A firm mattress helps with lower back pain and if it persist check with Dr. To do some exams for a problem with lower back and possible therapy. Ibuprofen is good at reducing the swelling in areas that hurt also. Check with your DR. first.

First i reccomend going to the doctor. The cancer could have spread before he had treatment and now it is effecting him. He also could have an ulsar, maybe a bladder infection, there is many possibilities. That is why going to the doctor is the only way to confirm what is wrong. and its worth going to the doctors if its serious.. so just go! Best wishes!

Just "pain" is not good enough to diagnose anything. Because pain can be a symptom of almost anything!

Slipped disc, pulled muscle, bruising, nerve damage, cracked bone, infection, cancer, insect bite.

    Anything!

If you're concerned, then send him off to the doctor, who can run tests to narrow things down.
