What floor of an apartment will be quieter, first second or third?
The apartment I am moving to has three floors, the first floor is down seven steps on the "basement" level, second floor is seven steps up from street level and the third floor is up another seven steps. On what floor will I have the least amount of noise from fellow renters...like having to hear their stereo, TV or conversations?
Thanks so much for your answers. I am going to try to get a 3rd floor. Be Blessed, Rose

The top floor is alwyas the quietest because you have no one above you and you are high enough from the ground that the noise of the street can't really bother you.

Always take the top floor. Listening to people walk back and forth all day is maddening. It doesn't matter if they are tip-toeing, they will still sound like a herd of elephants. If you have children, your downstairs neighbors might complain about the noise (kids dropping small items on the floor is VERY loud to the people below). My neighbors downstairs could even hear my 6 pound kitty walking across the carpet. I didn't believe them until one day I was downstairs and heard it myself. Can you imagine what a couple of enthusiastic lovers sounds like from the floor below? Ewwww. On the top floor you won't be listening to others as much but they will hear you.
Also. the top floor is generally safer. It's much harder to break into a top floor apartment. Thieves would break into the apartments that are easiest first.

I have to agree with the others. My husband and I actually took a tour of an apartment today, which was located on the 4th floor (and was the highest level). The manager was with us and told us that the top level of an apartment building is definitely the quietest. I would grab the 3rd floor apartment while you still can!

The third floor might be the most quiet. You wont be able to hear stumping and vacuuming and partying from people above you. You cant really hear neighbors underneath you unless they talk loud. Im living on the second floor and Im getting the "best" of both worlds. I hear the guy above me who we nicknamed "stomps". and we can hear a little of conversations below us. So third floor is best.

Definitely third! It's just the moving in and out that's the hassle! You'd better claim it before someone else does!

the third floor is best because you won't hear anything because you're on top. it'll be the quietest.

probably the first because thats where most old people would be because they tend not to like stairs and almost always make less noise
