Why do the dems want Republicans to help them on health care?

Dems are openly saying they need Republicans to help them pass a health care bill. Why should they care when they have a super majority? If the bills were that good, they'd be thankful no Republicans were involved so they could take all the credit.

When Obama said "i won" and Pelosi kicked all Republicans out of the bill writing process, they set the tone of partisanship.

Because if health care "reform", read higher taxes to pay for it, belongs exclusively to the democrats, come the mid-term elections in 2010, the Dems will lose their majority in both houses and thus lose the power they so desperately wanted back after 1994. Obabma wants the Dems to back him, but he is too stupid to realize that those up for re-election can't support a bill that belongs only to them. This is because Obama believes he is God, while the Dems realize he is just the Tin God.... the electorate can't get rid of him for three 1/2 more years and he doesn't have the class of Palin and will resign for the good of his party. but the electorate can punish the Dems for the economy going south, the high cost of the health care bill, and the inlation that will hit this country in a year or so. Congress will take the hit, not Obama.

You are right in that if all the Democrats were on board, that this could be passed. But Blue Dogs are not. But the facts below are true, and in the eight years that Bush the second was in power nothing was done to make things better. FACT - Insurance companies in the USA admit to pushing up prices, buying politicians and not paying out claims when they should FACT - PER PERSON the USA spends more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet FACT - Obama debated his plans before the election for healthcare FACT - the chance of a child under five of dying in the USA is greater than industrialised nations with universal health coverage FACT - Obama was elected by the American people to bring in change FACT - Obama wants to stop insurance companies from screwing the American people FACT - The reforms Obama wants work in the Netherlands and Switzerland Let me know if my facts are wrong, but please provide proof.

Because the democratic party is a lot more fractious than the republican party, especially in the last election, where a lot of democratic seats were picked up in conservative districts and states.

It's a bigger tent than the republican party right now(whereas the republican party was like that under Reagan), filled with a lot of competing ideologies. Especially in the House.

Any democratic senator from a conservative state is vulnerable right now. They don't wanna vote yes on health care. So they need the two republican senators from Maine, at the very least, to stop a filibuster.

    You said it best dude...

" If the bills were that good, they'd be thankful no Republicans were involved so they could take all the credit"

but seeing as how the bill is that bad, they have no republicans to blame hence, they're not willing to swallow that glass ofkoolaid on their own.

One reason and one reason, shared blame. If the healthcare ends up being a total failure, the democrats don't want to be the only ones who signed it. The republicans are trying to stay clear of it and this is making the democrats nervous as they won't have them to blame for anything that goes wrong.
