Have you ever read "Mere Christianity" by C.S Lewis?
I checked it out of the library, but have been unable to read much of it since. Someone else put in a request for it so I couldn't renew it.
Anyway, I was wondering what your opinions of the book are. Should I re check it out, or are there better books you can recommend for me?
Personally I wasn't very impressed with what I had read so far...but would still like to know what you guys thought of it.

While I don't believe anyone can be argued into the faith, C.S. Lewis lays out the steps by which one may come to such a belief.
I chuckled at most of the responses here. I sense some major preconceived opinions here.
C.S. Lewis says again and again "If this does not work for you, dispose of it". He lays out what he believes to be truth and lays it out well.
Its title explains its mission. It strips down Christianity to its essentials and does so extremely well.

The only thing I have ever read by C.S. Lewis is 'The Screwtape Letters' and it was great. I've heard Mere Christianity is really good but it's not really the kind of book I'm into.

pretty much horrible in my opinion.
I would recommend the man that convinced C.S. Lewis to stop being an atheist and become a christian. G K Chesterton. I am an atheist myself by Chesterton s pro christian books are very interesting reads .

The book is biased and exaggerated. Any book written by a human being is going to have a point of view that sways to one side or another. Writings by humans can only go so far, as we are limited in our 'cranial' capacity and express emotion that is influenced by other experiences in the writer's life.
Stick to the Bible.

It's as intellectual as Chirstian theology gets, but that isn't saying much.
...and the fundies hate it for some of the stuff he rejected in the Bible.

Read it; it's important to read what other Christians have to say. That way you can analyze it & decide if they're wrong. It's important to think on your own & not go by what famous Christians simply say.

I really liked it. It's definitely worth reading, imo. I'm not sure how much of it you read, but I think it gets better the farther you get into it.

Lewis has got to be one of the least proficient users of logic and one of the greatest demagogues.

Yeah, I've read it once and am currently reading it again. I think it's good, except book one.

Yeah, read the bible and be just as blind and ignorant as the rest of those bible thumpers. Great plan.
