Is it rational to explain the unknown using an arbitrary complex magical system?

Is it rational to place full faith in it?

How does an arbitrary, complex magical system explain anything? It provides no new insight. "Explaining" something by appealing to the supernatural is about as useful as "explaining" it by making fart noises with your armpit.

Yes. Except for the word magic you've thrown in there that's exactly what science is. The use of a (somewhat) arbitrary system to explain unknown aspects of nature.

And another system can also be used to tell us something about other unknown aspects of the world we live in, supernatural aspects, provided the system has supernatural beginnings.

"Is it rational to put FULL faith in it?"

Well that's actually quite a profound question and I'd have to say yes. You can't only halve believe something. It's either true or false so if you are going to come down on one side of the fence it makes sense to put your full faith in it rather than live a life with no meaning.

Since when are people generally considered to be rational? I know I'm not and I have no problem admitting I'm one tiny step away from being hauled off at any given time by the nice men in the white coats. As long as I leave others alone and do not impact them negatively, who cares? It's when others pay the price for irrational behaviors and beliefs that I start to take issue. Not a moment before, though.

Isn't rationality just the idea of reasoning, therefore, making your faith (belief without proof) a way of reasoning, therefore, making trying to explain the UNKNOWN (whether you're right or wrong) because it is unknown rational?

What do you mean by "an arbitrary complex magical system"? Maybe then be possible to provide a rational answer.

    1. Yes, if you're playing Dungeons and Dragons.

    2. Only if you're playing with loaded dice.

Aren't arbitrariness and complexity at odds? Complexity feels deliberate.

edit: Lol, ideological agreement seems to many a strong enough reason to support your erroneous diction.

No. It is completely irrational. Unfortunately, not everyone can realize this.
