5speed convertion into a aod automatic whats needed? what needs to be done? how powerful is my Mustang 5.0?
my girlfriend bought a 5.0 1988 mustang its a stick i tried teaching her how to drive stick but shes just too lazy she just sold her car due to our bills so we just bought a cheaper car and she barely even knows how to drive it ive broke both my legs and currently disabled so i figure ill just have a automatic tranny installed for her since she starts her new job next week..
i know this is powerful but i dont know about mods that much how much hp do you think this car is giving us?
Mods
rear end 3:55 gears
t5 tranny with king cobra clutch
b&m short shifter
underdrive pullys
bbk shorty headers
bbk cold air
edelbrock performance intake manifold
F303 cam
throttle body (not sure what size but bigger then stock thats forsure)
fuel injectors 24 lbs
roller rockers
magnaflow catback exhaust
msd ignition
nitrous kit
dont know anymore info except for all this this car came from a parent of the kid that used this car and he did all the mods and is currently locked up.
main question is how will the automatic tranny perform with the 3:55 gears?
and will i have to buy a driveshaft and auto pedals for it too? what else would i need?
this needs to be done soon please let me know thanks!

I have changed a ford from an automatic to a 4speed. It took alot of work. Things that u need to change:
Transmission
starter
oil lines
transmission cooler
cross member
transmission mounts
drive shaft
shift linkage(or buy a b&m automatic floor shifter..best bet)
new ecu(tranny will not shift correctly if ecu is different)
Your best bet is buying a cheap cheap mustang same year with an automatic an robbing it of all its parts. Thats what I did. I paid 500 for the bronco and spent $25 in oil. I did this by myself in 1 day. It will be easier doing it that way.
And yes it does sound like the car has lots of power in it. But you will lose some putting an automatic in it.
Take time and show her correctly. Ask a friend to help her aswell. Not worth all that trouble, time and money swtiching it out.

The 5.0 was rated at 220HP brand new. With the mods, I'd guess 300 or so. It's just a guess, though. As far as swapping out to an automatic, you'll need a donor car for sure. There is a lot to swap. Transmission mounts, flywheel, starter, driveshaft, shifter, and the list goes on. Good luck with those legs, bro.

well you will need the pedals out of another mustang, the linkage for the shifter.the best thing you could do is find a wrecked car and take all the parts off it so you have everything you need,it would be a lot easier then part hunting and there are a lot of dead mustangs out there, try the junk yards and look in the news paper for parts cars.
