What is a good gift to have my 3 year old son make for his mom's/my ex's birthday?

My son will be 3 in September, and I wanted to have him make something other than a birthday card.

You can have him dip his hands in paint and place his hands on a big piece of construction paper leaving behind his precious hand prints. Take it to Kinko's to get laminated, It can be a place mat

Sign up for a class at Archivers or similar place (let them know you want to make a gift for mommy) and see if they can help you two.

You can have him color a picture/paint a picture, etc......give him colors, markers, paint, colored pencils in colors that compliment a room in mothers house. Then take the picture to Wal-Mart and get a matted photo frame that the picture the child created fits in.

Take him in and get his portraits done. Put the portraits in a photo album.

Buy a white t-shirt (in her size) and some fabric paints. Let him choose the colors(1-3 colors) Then, with YOUR SUPERVISION, help him to paint his whole hand, left and right, one at a time, and place it on the t-shirt. Then do his feet. After that, Write something like "Mommy of_________"(your childs name) or "Best Mommy Ever" or "_________'s Mommy!"(your child's name) or anything you really want! Let him try and write his name (if he can) He'll be so proud of his artistic masterpiece! A card to accompany the T-shirt is always nice!

I don't know about your area, but around here, at the dollar store, you can buy a whole bunch wooden crafts such as jewelry boxes, bird houses, etc. that you can paint. I'm not sure if your son can use a paintbrush, but that might be a nice thing for him to make. You can even help him stick on a few things like beads, feathers, etc.

Some kind of craft that immortalizes his hand or foot prints would be nice.

Or you could get her a coffee mug with a favorite photo of your son - Walmart's photo center can do this with nice results.

There are lots of craft kits out there but none that would really suit your purpose. How about you and him making a picture for mummy that involves sticking maybe pieces of dried pasta, or using uncooked spaghetti (for hair), just lots of bits around the house. It won't look great, but its the thought that counts!

Have him paint on a plain white coffee cup, you can get them at any craft store, make sure to get nonwashable paint or it will wash off after one wash. its a good keepsake

Or you can have him make a picture frame, get a wooden one and have him paint or color on it with markers, then put his pic on it. Moms love handmade gifts they are better then bought ones!

Help him make a cake for her. He can decorate a white tshirt with birthday wishes for her. Pottery barn has plenty of gift ideas he can make for her.

Go to walmart and buy the hand plaster kit. Its cute! He can imprint his own hands and paint it. I loved mine. It was shaped like a heart with one hand print in it.

Also, I think you are awesome to help him make her something. That will mean so much to her!
