'86 Porsche wont start?

I replaced the coil because there was not spark. Initially there was fuel at the injectors but no spark now I have spark(it fires with a little starting fluid but that is all)There is fuel flow and pressure to specs at the rail, there is voltage at the injector with the key on. 5.3 volts at th air flow sensor and the correct MA reading for the position sensor at the air flow sensor. I plan to continue the checks tomorrow for the temp sensor and the TPS. Is it possible that there is a tie in with the alarm system and the fuel injector system? I did have to replace the battery (the car had been sitting for three years prior to trying to move it)If so how is this system reset?

Update:

first off It would be nice if people would read the question first. to those of you who asked if there is fuel I have already stated that there is fuel , pressure, and flow at the fuel rail not one answer to this point (there are seven) has come from anyone who wants to help but rather just get points for answers.

Update 2:

The fuel is Five gallons of fresh fuel after draining and pumping through new fuel!

Update 3:

I have the rail dismounted and there is no flow out of the injectors when attempting to start as they are in open atmosphere it is an 86 944 Thank you so far for your responses I would appreciate any further info

Update 4:

not even a dribble from any of the injectors they are bone dry

The alarm does tie in with the ignition system but I'm not sure if it cuts out the spark or the fuel. You can bypass the alarm module under the passenger side floor, its attached to the computer. clarks-garage.com explains it all. Its possible that the initial gas you were getting was old gas still in the lines and some of it had coagulated and now you have a clog. If it ran when it was parked and you didn't change anything other than what you've mentioned, try bypassing the alarm before tearing the fuel system apart more. Its way easier. Like the other poster stated, you can pull the delivery line off and turn the key on, it should pour gas out. If not, then you have a clog. You may want to check the crank position sensor as well, but that doesn't sound like the problem. I guess if you have pressure at the rail then the old gas could have gummed up your injectors. You checked the voltage but if you have access to a NOID light set (I think Autozone lends them) you can check if the injectors are getting power at the right times.

Since it fires on starting fluid, it sounds like this is a fuel problem. During those 3 years some old gas might have set up inside the fuel lines. You can still get flow and correct fuel pressure readings even if the lines are congested, but there would be less volume pumped through. Try taking the input line from the fuel pump and feeding it out of a gallon gas can.

    oreos40,

You didn't specify the engine or model.

However, the fact that you have pressure to spec at the rail, and flow, spark, etc.... if it is firing up with starter fluid I do indeed wonder if your injectors may be clogged. Especially on models such as the 944 they are insanely prone to clogged injectors. Have you pulled the injectors yet and inspected them or cleaned them and tested the pressure at the injectors? This would be the next place. It is good you tested the rail, but you also need to make sure the flow is good at the injectors as well.

Does it intermittently fire? Does it sputter? Not start at all?

If you can give us the model of Porsche (911, 944, etc) i have some guides for no start conditions I'd be happy to link you up to.

(editing my answer since you added more detail)

Having the injectors out shouldn't matter, you can still test them. Here are some links on troubleshooting your fuel system directly from clark's garage. Great site, 100% dedicated to the 944.

My particular favorite link, no start conditions and things to look for under those specific conditions. In your case, check "Engine turns but won't start (fire)". More specifically, even though you have pressure at the rail it may not be enough. This guide will bring you through that.

Check the fuel pump relay in the power distribution box Sounds like your not getting any fuel to the engine
