Entry Level Computer Certs?
My employer has told me to begin looking for some entry level certifications. Although I'm not sure which route I would like to take. I started with the CCENT. Thought about getting my CCNA. Although I have a very large interest in unix. How difficult are solaris or redhat certifications?
Again... looking for entry level certifications. Any suggestions?
2 AnswersTechnology9 years agoGerman Etiquette - Using Names?
Hi there,
I'm trying to learn German and am having a hard time understanding the use of names. My understanding is when greeting or meeting someone that unlike english, the use of names in German would be considered impolite unless invited to do so? So using the last name only? Is it more formal? Less formal?
What are some common greetings you would use in this case assuming you don't know the person?
Help me understand.
Sincerely,
Mein Deutsch ist nicht besonders gut :P
2 AnswersLanguages10 years agoAndroid G2... power button is toast...?
I love tinkering with electronics so I'd like to see if I can fix it.
Long story short.. had gatorade on table. G2 was in the chair. My evil cat knocked over the gatorade and it hit the G2. I was quick enough to take the battery out and ricebag the phone. Days later it was just fine. However, it wouldn't power up by normal means. It only power up if i remove the battery and plug it back in. So I'm trying to keep it on by keeping it charged.
Only thing acting weird is the power button. Nothing else appears to have taken damage.
At first I figured "Sticky button?" but since it quite literally isn't responding I can only assume the damage was done when it hit the phone.
Is there a way to take the phone apart, fix it? I'm sure there are some electronic fanatics on here who love modding and fixing electronics so i figured I'd give it a try and see if anyone has some ideas.
If it can be fixed, no reason for me to go spend more money on another. I do have solder, the correct soldering iron and tools for small electronics. But how the heck do you take these stupid things apart?
1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans1 decade agoHow do i get the smell of gas out of the washing machine!?
Well hindsight being 20/20.... I was replacing a fuel line on a car of mine and got gas on my clothes. I went "OH NO" and put them in the washer. At the time I wasn't thinking. Now my washer smells like gasoline.
How in the world do I get the smell OUT of the washer!? My wife is gonna kill me!
It's a front load samsung HE washer, one of those new energy efficient things.
6 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoWhat is the best type of alarm to go with for.....?
A rear hatch. I have recently put a very large setup in the back of my Porsche 944. Not only are the hatch glass pieces worth my first born to replace, but it would be a royal pain in my *** if it got broke. What is the best type of alarm to install to keep potential thieves away?
I've considered a proximity alarm? It would be nice to have something to tell people to step away. Also something sensitive that can be set off easily of someone tries to pry on it, hits it, etc... I'm not a pro with alarms so I figured I'd seek out some advice.
Anyone have suggestions on a good brand, type, and setup for an alarm? The hatches are held in by 2 clip devices, 1 on each side of the hatch. Seals nice and tight. Can't imagine a way to pop them without breaking the glass.
3 AnswersPorsche1 decade agoHow do I remove a rearview mirror from my windshield?
It has that strange glass glue on it. How do i CAREFULLY remove it so that I can put another mirror onto it? The one that is on the car is driving me nuts, and the adapter for the new one is a different shape. How do i remove it from my windshield without breaking it?
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoIs it okay in World of Warcraft to....?
I'm curious since blizzard added the ability for people to create alliance AND horde toons on the pvp servers (mind you i'm talking pvp).... is it illegal to say, create a toon on one that's 80, and go create an alt, then join a guild with that alt, and then log off and use your 80 to go kill their raiding party when you know where they are? If so.... I think I'm onto someone doing that in our guild. I have a feeling blizzard probably doesn't care, and that it probably IS legal since they allowed people to create toons on both sides. But is it okay or not? Or am i wasting my breath?
1 AnswerVideo & Online Games1 decade agoHow can i make the telemarketers STOP!?
So I keep getting calls from this place on a daily basis. 310-318-0078 which is some magazine company. I'm on donotcall.gov and have called these people and told them to remove me from their records. I even contacted the better business bureau. Apparently their average response time to complaints from the bbb is like 20 DAYS.
It's driving me up the wall. I refuse to answer the call because I've heard horror stories of them just ordering info if you talk to them. Aside from changing my phone number which I use for many purposes, what can I do?
4 AnswersOther - Advertising & Marketing1 decade agoIs it legal to drive a trackday car on the road?
Given that the car has a rollcage, is stripped down and has a 5pt harness rather than your standard belt and FIA rated seats. The car HAS plates and turn signals on it and working headlights.....
What constitutes a track car to be ILLEGAL for the road, aside from smog regulations?
I live in Oregon if that helps.
5 AnswersSafety1 decade agoDiscontinued MMORPGS?
So in the past I know that sometimes when video game companies go bankrupt, or they sell a project that they sometimes release the games for free to the public. I know it's not often, but it happens once in a while and they do it so people can do their own servers.
I was wondering if there is a site that maybe has a list for these? Or if there are any sites out there that are do it yourself sites for these games? I miss playing games like earth and beyond and stuff and was wondering if there are any games out there MMORPG style that were launched after the companies went bankrupt back to the public. Games like hellgate london, earth and beyond, etc....
Is anyone aware of any of these? I thought it would be cool to set up my own server between a small group of friends.
3 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoIssues with cooling system?
I've done a lot of wrenching in my life. However, I've never worked on a cooling system till now. The car is a 1984 Porsche 944. Recently the temperature gradually was driving up onto the 3rd bar (meaning over half) which is approximately 97C. I figured it was the thermostat so i fully flushed the system and then replaced the thermostat with a 180F OEM thermostat. I then bled the system to the best of my abilities. It still had some air in it and would climb quite quickly to the 3rd bar. I bled it again after leaving it on stands for a few days and filling the coolant expansion with fresh coolant. Now it climbs VERY SLOWLY, but eventually at highway speed hits just /under/ the 3rd bar, so about 89C.
The issue seems to be that if i leave the car at a standstill and in traffic, the thermostat will open and it will cool down, the fans will kick in. So I know the thermo temp switch in the radiator is working, so are the fans. I can also turn on the ac and the fans kick in as well. If i turn the heater on full blast the temperature will go down slightly for a brief time. So the issue is not any type of therm switch.
The coolant does not bubble or boil. And I do not appear to be losing any coolant. I have verified and checked compression so I do not appear to be having a head gasket issue, and there is no oil on the dipstick either.
I replaced the cap on the expansion reservoir as it was not holding pressure and this did help. There is a significant difference in pressure. I am not seeing any visible leaks, but am unsure on how to do a leakdown test.
My other thought is that I may have a partially or mostly clogged radiator. However, these cars have an aluminum radiator with plastic bottom, so rust is pretty much unfathomable and unheard of, though corrosion may be possible.
Any ideas? I am going to attempt to replace with a lower temp thermostat and rebleed and test the radiator this weekend. Ideas are welcome. Please only serious answers, any bullcrap answers will be promptly reported to be removed. Thank you for your time for those serious enough to reply :)
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhat music in district 9 trailer?
At about 1:20ish, there's some crazy electronica. I've found what the other music in the rest of the trailer is, but have no clue what that is. Could anyone list what it is please? Almost sounds like something crazy someone like Black Sun Empire would put out.
1 AnswerOther - Music1 decade agoHubcentric wheel spacer lengths?
Already aware of the pros and cons of wheel spacers. That set aside.... what do i need for spacers as I am horrible at understanding the "even length" thing and am getting conflicting information. I've been told "Get the same length spacers all around" and "Just make sure the wheels end up the same" and "Only go this much". So to clear it up, whoever can give me the best justification of size, how far to go out and get it correct gets 10 points and my enormous thanks.
This is for a 1984 Porsche 944. Stock sizes are as follows. Front is 7"x15"@23mm rear is 8"x15"@11mm (with a seemingly 3/4" spacer stock)
The NEW wheels are off a 1996 911 Targa. They are as follows: Front 7"x17"@55mm, rear is 8.5"x17"@50mm.
What spacers do i need front and back in hubcentric to make it "flush" and "correct" as intended. Again, thank you for your time in answering the question and the best answer gets the points. Again this is not a debate question, it is a simple question of what is necessary to get them fitted correctly.
3 AnswersPorsche1 decade agoI have a really old cat with some issues. Keeps peeing!?
So I have a cat that is literally about 20 years old. Really old cat. Not but recently she started constantly peeing in random places and taking dumps on the bathroom floor. At first me and my fiance thought it was just a random occurrence and she stopped for a few days. Now it's becoming a habitual daily thing.
She's lost a lot of weight this year and seems pretty weak. Someone told me she might have arthritis and have a problem getting in the litter box? She manages to hop up on the bed every day though.
Not sure what to do with my ol' kitty cat :-/
5 AnswersCats1 decade agoGetting hired at a shop?
So for years on end my hobby has been tuning, working on, modifying and restoring sportbikes and cars. Particularly as of late my main has been working on Porsches. I've wanted to inquire about employment part time at a few shops and I know I'd do great, but I heard that I have to be "certified" for mechanic work. Is this true? If it is what do I need to do or where to go to get "certified"? Figured I'd post up, this is actually the first question I've asked on here, so it would be nice to hear from some mechanics who know about what's required to be "legit" in the wrenching world.
Thanks for your time.
