Video game health problems?

Well, I'm a pretty hardcore gamer. I spend at least 8 hours a day during the summer on either them computer or my ps3. If anyone knows, I'd like to know health related problems connected to playing video games. Thank you!

well the limit for playing hand held games is a hour manly because you strain your eyes but for gaming systems and laptops the bigger the screen the better (i go on fast i don't eat)with games i lose weight that way so theirs good in it as well.

Last year I was laid off and I started playing games on my PC all day long. At least 8 hours at a stretch.

My leg started to swell up at the ankle and then it got hard to walk. After 2 weeks of this I couldn't straighten my leg all the way.

I had a subcutaneous thrombosis. In plain English I had a blood clot.

Fortunately for me it was in the lower leg and I was able to treat it myself. I still had nerve damage that took almost a year to heal. I still get pain in that leg more than the left leg when I exercise, but I make sure I exercise and when I have off days from work I only spend a few hours at a time playing.

Other health issues are obesity. You will lose muscle mass from being sedentary and at the same time you will pick up fat mass. Then when you finally start doing exercise it will be very difficult.

I strongly recommend you exercise a couple hours a day if you are going to play for 8 hours a day. Walking, chopping wood, gardening, yoga, basketball, anything to get you moving and get those muscles stretching and the heart pumping blood.

You will feel and look better and your mental state will be better as well.

    Good Luck!

Nothing life threatening or imminent, but focusing your eyes for that long on a screen can;t be good. Make sure you take plenty of breaks. Being sedentary isn't good either. You need to get some physical activity. This is what is causing obesity in this country. You may not notice the benefits of being outside now, but you will in 15 years.

There are all kinds of other problems non-health related with gaming that much. Are you doing anything intellectual? It doesn't have to be boring like doing HW, but try and do some intellectual things too. Make sure you read something you like, play chess, etc.

Well the sun's rays are a good thing. By not going into them much because of the video game addiction you get more pimples. You also get a vitamin deficiency. Vitamin D. Unless you are playing dance dance revolution you are probably either gaining or losing weight becoming either a beanpole or a fatty. Oh yeah carpal tunnel in the hands and wrists from repetitive motion. Sound like fun yet?

Do you have a history of motion sickness? Certain moving things in video games and TV bother me, and I have always had troubles with motion sickness. If you are really close to the screen and/or playing in the dark, that could also make it worse.

Two off the top of my head: lack of Vitamin D (with its many problems now and for your future) because of little exposure to the sun, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
