Martial Arts Section...?

When we see the "how do I beat up this kid at school" type questions the responsible contributors explain that fighting isn't the answer. This attitude is what most experienced martial artists have learned through personal experience and their years of training.

If the truest martial arts related answer to these questions is pacifism then answers suggesting anything else go against martial arts training and therefore really have no place here. Answers to knee cap a bully or hit them with a bat or even pull a gun on them (I've seen all these and more) are dangerously irresponsible and quite honestly against Yahoo! Answers Community Guidelines. Many of us train with live sparring which includes a lot of hitting (both giving and unavoidably receiving); questions that are asked about sparring could easily be applied outside of class but these are often answered as they are technical in nature. The school yard fight scenario warrants no answers because it does not relate to the practice of martial arts (even if one or both parties in the fight train). Any answers that advocate violence are against the Community Guidelines definining "Doing Harm"

"Be responsible and don’t misrepresent yourself, claim false credentials or expertise or give advice in a way that might cause someone harm. Don’t incite or advocate violence or harmful practices"

So I've covered the valid answers and the invalid answers, but I believe the questions themselves go against community guidelines for a couple other reasons. Not only are they seeking the kind of illegal answers that they invariably get but they quite often begin with a rant against the other kid. The last point of contention I'll mention is the age restriction; too often I see these questions from kids who openly state themselves to be 12, a full year younger than Y!A permits.

While this post may seem like a rant I believe strongly that these school yard fight questions should be reported and deleted quickly. I haven't heard about it happening yet but how long will it be till some unstable kid reads the answer to pull a gun and decides that's his best bet? Martial arts aren't a game and while we have fun with some answers these ones should not be allowed.

Who else reports these questions as a violation? Who will join me in reporting these questions? What else do you suggest we do to make this section a safer place?

Update:

My point isn't about the unstables that are out there, it's about questions that violate the community guidelines.

As for it being a fair fight or not, fights can go very bad very quickly. They can lead to escalations and even when they don't both sides are exposed to legal risks if their guardians decided to press charges. That isn't including the suspension or expulsion risk you run breaking the zero tolerance policies that many school districts have in place these days. So even a "fair fight" puts people at danger and answer answer for how to fight is only inciting the askers to violence.

Update 2:

Clowns - I realized that as I was writing this; I was just hoping no one would notice... thanks a lot :D

I did try to write this as a question related to dealing with other questions that are both annoying and represent a violation of the rules. I presented a clear argument then opened it up as a question so I felt it was less a rant.

Well said! I do report underage members as well as those asking how to do harm to others. The best thing we can do is to report anything that should not be here.

Another problem is the push-up guy. He and another one have many identities that are currently active. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one reporting these questions. Yet I know, or at least hope that others are reporting them too.

I agree with biker_trash that if a kid is so unstable that a few silly answers on a website is going to make them pull a gun out on someone, it's hardly the internets fault. However I also agree with you that these questions and a lot of the answers go against Yahoo's terms.

I'm not big on reporting people and I find that generally I report the people who answer, more than the people who ask the questions. If these people didn't answer the poster than the poster would stop asking such questions because they know they're not going to get any help from the site. After reading this though, I'll probably start reporting the people who asks the questions, never really thought about it that way honestly.

I do usually give an answer to these people. Something along the lines of how it's not a martial arts question and violence is not the answer. They never seem to like that answer though.

    Edit: Shihan J, I'm afraid I have you beat, I've gotten 8.

The martial arts section will inevitably draw both questions and answers pertaining to violence. Not only do I not take the time to report them. I don't even take the time to open the question and read it. To be quite honest, I couldn't care less about what they do at school or in their lives. If they want to be dumb enough and participate in meaningless fights, so be it. If one of them is killed in the process I attribute it all to natural selection. If it weren't for their dumb behavior there would be a lot of overpopulation in the world. I do my part by answering the small amount of serious questions in this section (along with criticizing some of the others). How they interpret the answers given to those questions is entirely up to them.

You must also remember that the people who ask those questions are nothing but trolls trying to get a rise out of us. Even so, I would never tell anyone (unless I met them in person and knew them to be of good character and intentions) how to harm another person.

i think it does warrant an answer and the sameone i give to them

martial arts is not about fighting but about self defense.

    violence begets violence.

this is usually the part where they start b**** at me and give me the thumbs down, my personal best record is 6 thumbs down so far i just cant seem to beat that one. but i will soon its my goal here.

and for the last part of your question yes i will report them as i have done in the past especially any answers that i see that violate the community guide lines.

reporting the question wont get it removed most of the time, but reporting the more violent answers will work

edit:> dam, and i try so hard to get the most. ah that just ruins my day. if it wasn't for the free ice cream machine my boss put it my whole week would be shot.

Of course it warrants an answer and that answer should be a responsible one. This kind of thing goes far beyond martial arts. It's in the realm of being a good and Intelligent human being. Violence only begets violence. We should always stay on the path of pacifism. Otherwise, there are consequences - such as jail time.

While I agree with what you are saying, if a kid or anyone else is that unstable, some random internet poster is hardly going to be to blame for something this unfortunate happening. Bad things happen daily, simply because there are no shortage of deranged, weird, and outright crazy mother *****ers living in this world.

What keeps them coming back with the same BS is the they get answered by those who don't recognize that they are trolls.

Its difficult to make everyone follow some sort of moderation and they will feed like there's no tomorrow.

Let's stop answering anything and just report them.

yes in a sense, but you can't blame yahoo answers for things that happen anymore than eminem or marylin manson. its a place for free opinions it doesn't ever mean its the one you think is the best is correct. it just part of the concept how many times did you know the questions picked an incorrect answer as the correct one?

what the hell are u complaining about?

I advocate violents at times because thats the world we live. its strictly human nature.

i use my experience to aid those who ask the question and i answer it in full truth of how i would not matter the persons age size color or what not. how they chose to use it is on them.

I can give someone a peice of paper that says how to make c4 n where to get what they need. if they blow up there work or themselves in on them.

dont be so report ready. last time i checked I still have the freedom of speech. Telling someone how to fight or if they should fight does not evade another persons rights. only if the user uses it againist a person.

so is it legally right to deny the 1st amendment in fear of what if? I say nope.

so quick complaining. its not ur problem anyway.

And look at that, Shihan J and Pugpaws answer.. they're probably the best in this section.

I agree with you, I don't report much of anything but I agree.
