Religion: WHY? Proof? No proof is proof?!?
I'm not going to sit here on my high horse and blabber on about things they don't know like some people - I am just genuinely curious.
I think this may be too 'philiosophical' but why is there religion? In my mind, I see there to be no definate proof that a 'god' exist. But this proof of no proof doesn't mean than god doesn't exist - it merely means we don't know. How do people blindly follow a religion? Is it because they are scared of the unknown, or because they truely believe that God is cause but has no cause itself?
As you may notice - I'm pretty confused about religion and so I hope that I have not offended anyone. I would just like to know WHY people have 'faith' in something which could actually be nothing. Some dedicate their lives to religion.
Anything would be helpful :)
Thanks

Sad!! There is ample proof - against a god, Jesus and the bible and the final proof is why christians believe!!
Academia states that in the absence of proof of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable proof is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.
There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one!!! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!!
There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!
He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?
Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!
Pilot is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!!
At best he was an amalgam of those others!!
The Roman Emperor Constantine produced the bible and he was a pagan not god!!! He also organized Christianity into the Holly Roman Catholic Church!! Not in Israel or any of the countries of supposed origin but entirely ITALIAN!!
Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until many years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books long after they were dead?
What a wonder full disinformation and deception campaign he waged against his Christian enemies - so good in fact that Christians are still following the deception to this day!!!
The first person to provide a shred of verifiable evidence for God will become world famous and mega rich!! Ain't happened yet and it never will!!
So why do christians beleive? Simple answer is the child and human rights abuse of forcing young children to be christian!!
Acceptance of a supernatural claim tends to promote cooperative social relationships. This communication demonstrates a willingness to accept, without skepticism, the influence of the speaker in a way similar to a child's acceptance of the influence of a parent. By encouraging this kind of behavior where the most intense social relationships occur it facilitates the lack of skepticism and deters more open minded thinking.
They are christian, Muslim or the other religions depending where they were born simply because they were indoctrinated by their parents as very young children. They will go on to indoctrinate their own children and those will go on to indoctrinate their grandchildren!!
Atheists have the intellect to see through the conditioning and escape into the real world!!
Agnostics have the intellect to see through the conditioning but lack the courage to throw of the conditioning entirely.
Sadly Christians are still held firmly prisoner by the self perpetuating brainwashing!!

No matter how flat you make it, a pancake will always have two sides, when you do math, the numbers always either go up or down with two different numbers, where there's evil you can also find good somewhere near, freewill is yours, I choose to believe in him and proof is everywhere, the choice is yours, you'll get proof, but if you don't serve him, it may be too late, you either serve God or you serve the devil, there's no serving yourself as many may say they do

My belief in the existence of God is based on Faith. The Atheist's belief in the non-existence of God is based on Logical. Faith and Logic are two mutually exclusive human qualities which can never be reconciled.
Just as my Faith prevents me from believing that God doesn't exist, the logic of an Atheist will never allow him to believe that God does in fact exists.
Time would be better spent if an Atheist can find and argue with a person who can prove the existence of God through logic. Likewise, a person of faith is wasting his time unless he finds another person whose faith led him to believe that God doesn't exist.
All this "intellectual arguments" between Christians and Atheists is in my humble opinion, a universal waste of time and intellect. It's like two knights dueling, except one only has a sword and the other only has a shield. In the end, there is no clear winner, only two extremely tired and extremely frustrated people who shouldn't have been fighting in the first place.

re⋅li⋅gion –noun
1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
4. the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion.
5. the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.
6. something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice.
Not believing in God and saying there is no reason to do so is still a religion. Evolution is also a type of religion...it fits within the definition perfectly.
This is why God wants a relationship with you, not a religion.
Now...to answer your question as to "Why believe in God?" He made you, and you are created with a desire to know where you came from. We all NEED answers to life's question...and He is it. There is proof of God's existence, but whether or not you trust it or accept it is up to you. We're not all crazy for believing in this awesome Being, even though some of the stories are hard to believe. God is real, and He's made his presence known. But it's up to you to understand the evidence and believe it.

If you were sincencere, you could find your own evidence for Christianity and the Bible. There is physical proof (miracles), and there is logical proof (Jesus claimed to be God, and He did the things God would and could do).
There are a number of books on the subject. And there are people you could talk to (like me) who have experienced miracles.
You don't have the information because you have not been sincere in your search.
Get serious about finding God and you will find God.
I wish you the best in your search.

God made it simple for man to search and find him.
Once you have found God, you have found the proof that he exist. Everyone has a different but similiar experience of their relationship with God.
Can someone else feel your headache, no, not if it's yours. But everyone get a headace once in a whilst so they have similiar feelings.
Knowing God is personal, but similiar when you identify with other of the same belief.
It about you and God.
That is the proof.

There is not a god, so far researching history I have discovered three reasons
to explain what they could not, however now we have science so we do not need it for that.
To Console people about death. People are afraid of death and god helps them because now they think they are going to a better place. Yet that is only a false hope.
To control the masses. When people first formed societies they needed ways to control the people or the society would fall apart

if we were created by a creator, this creator either had a plan to send us all to hell (minus the people who believe that just believing in something will get you eternal bliss), or he was accepting of us actually questioning things that aren't tangible. he would understand that if we've never seen a ghost in our life then it's pretty hard to believe in it. faith isn't enough to constrict the human mind to open evaluations of other possibilities. so if there is a creator, he'll be welcome. if he's not then he's had this planned out in the beginning and there's really nothing we can do about it but just live life as best as we can as good as we can.

God has made Himself known to all people.
He chose Israel to make Himself known.
He gave us the Bible to tell us His Word. To tell us who Jesus is and why we need Him.
He sent His Holy Spirit to convict us and to convince us of the truth.
There is proof if you want it.
