Punctuation at the end of a sentence...?

Ok, this is going to sound like a stupid question, but I'm asking anyway. If I am ending a sentence with something that already has a "period" (i.e., I am a big fan of the movie E.T.), do I then end it with one period or two? I mean, which of these is right?

a) I am a big fan of the movie E.T.

b) I am a big fan of the movie E.T..

You only need one period at the end of a sentence, even if the sentence ends with an abbreviation or initials that have their own period. Thus, your first example is correct.

one. Suppose you are saying" I am a big fan of John., or I am a big fan of the movie Grease. There is only one period as the name is a proper noun.

  • One period. Period.

What he said. One period. Period. How ridiculous is "E.T.."??

it seems like one period is correct, but not right. if there's another sentence that follows sentence 'a', my brain f*cks up.
