You can certainly have a leisurely swim to relax your muscles, or swimming CAN be the workout

swimming after workout seems more logical because you are all sweaty when you get out of the gym so u really wanna dive in the water. but swimming is a great way to loosen up muscles and working them out lightly as in it dsnt put as much strain on ur muscles as the gym. so swimming before would be better so u can go straight into a work out. u can really do it both ways. if ur hot after the gym well then just dive in the water haha

Varsity is about 13 hours a week including mornings and afternoons. Workouts are about 3,000- 4,000 yards of IM or freestyle. This includes warmup, drill, kicking, pull, and main set in about 2 hrs. JV is less than half of that. Probably only 1 or 1 1/2 hr and about 2,000 yards. Mostly freestyle with some stroke work in the drills. Lots of 50s and 100s. Don't worry. It gets easier with more practice.
