    Betta ( Betta Splendens )

    Tank size: 5+ gallons

Diet: Mainly Carnivorous and insectivores, love blood worms

Size: 3-4" including very long fins

    Temperature: 80-84F

Filter: not necessary, they hate any current

Heater: necessary, they need high temperatures to stay healthy

Air pump: not needed, they breath atmospheric oxygen

Tank mates: None, they are very aggressive

    Temperment: Extremely aggressive

Females are the same they just need a bigger tank and are fine with most other tropical fish

Bettas can live in a 1 gallon bowl or such, but in order to thrive, they should probably be in a tank of 3-5 gallons. they are aggressive, and the males should never be put together. but even the females are aggresive. when you put 2 females together, the older one may harass the younger one. if you want to keep female bettas together, keep them in groups of 3 or more. they should be fed 1-2 pellets once or twice a day. fish flakes cloud the water. make sure the tank has a filter and a heater. you don't necessarily need a filter, but it makes cleaning easier. if you don't have a filter, you will need to do 20% water changes every week. but if you do have a filter, then change it every other week. the most common cause of stress for bettas is dirty water.

make sure the water is between 70-80 degrees. and check out this website: www.ultimatebettas.com Hope i helped! :-)

Edit- if you do get a filter, get the whisper 3i, it barely causes any current, bettas don't like currents

Well, Bettas are agressive fish. Never mix them with other Betas unless you want a fight to accure. As for the female Bettas, all that I know is that their fins look as though they've been cut. While males are nice and long. Sorry, but this is what I know. Used to own a male purple Betta, good choice in fish! They should be in a good sized tank for ONE, Bettas even attack their own reflection if they see it, and a filter to keep the tank clean and such. Bubbler to put more oxygen in the water, and Betta feed which you can get at a pet store. This is all I know about taking care of Bettas, used to own one for a year or two. Hope this helps some!

Good luck on your newest buddy!

    Care:

Betta Homing: bettas can be kept in bowls, but will not be happy unless its 2 gallons or more! bettas are tropical fish and need to have warm water at all times, and no yo yoing temperatures. bettas do like to jump, so if you have a 2 gallon bowl, or any bowl for that matter, make sure you have some sort of cover on top. bettas breathe outside of the water, so let there be air holes on the cover. bettas will live longer and thrive in at least a 2.5 gallon tank with heating and filtering. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE WATER DECHLORINATOR TO GET THE CHLORINE OUT OF THE WATER WHICH IS FATAL TO FISH.

Personality: Male bettas are community fish. but cannot be kept with other bettas and fish with fins similar to bettas. Male bettas have been rumored to not be able to live with any other fish, but this is not true. bettas can get along with many other fish such as neon tetras, african dwarf frogs, white cloud minnows, and many others! female fish are also community fish but cannot be kept with male bettas. Female bettas can be kept with female bettas but must be in a group of 3-4. Bettas have been known to recognize whot heir owners are, and are very smart. I have taught my betta fish to flare and jump on command!

Feeding:Bettas will eat anything. they are pigs! i prefer to feed them a mixed diet of flakes, pellets, and bloodworms, which my betta LOVES. they will literally eat themselves to death, and they are very fun to watch when they attack their food. its your decision as to how much you would like to feed. i feed my fish 6 days a week, and fast them on sundays. Which works because you dont want your betta to get fat!

Females are smaller compared to males, but males are the ones with the long elegant fins. females have short fins.

    ENJOY YOUR BETTA!

bettas are easy to care for. you can keep one in a 1 gallon aqaurium or one of those betta bowls. they dont need a heater and need fed 1-2 times a day.depending on how many you get ,you may need a bigger tank.never put two males together as they will fight to the death.males have more elegant fins than females too.females will get along with males and other females.they live usually 2-4 years give or take
