Actually the average mexican citizen who has an illegal gun has a higher number of and more powerful weapons then an American Citizen who is a gun owner.

If having a gun is illegal anyways, then they may as well have fully automatic weapons, since the punishment will be the same anyways.

Also the majority of weapons that the Mexican cartels receive are from China, Cuba, Venezuela and other nations.
