Car Jerking and Jumping?
I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand am only has about 83,000 miles on it. I Have been having a problem with it, so it only happens when I'm on the interstate, so here's the problem if I am going about 60 to 65 mph and I wanted to give it a little gas my car starts to jerk like its jumping once I get into a higher gear it quits.
Just looking for suggestions!! Thank you!!

"Jerking and jumping" generally indicates a misfire or skip - it may also be a lock up converter concern.
If you very lightly touch the brake pedal (just enough to activate the brake lights) when it's jerking and the jerking stops - you have a converter problem. If it continues to jerk along, the engine is misfiring.

If it has not had a tuneup for a few years, that is a good place to start. My other thought is a dirty fuel filter, since the acceleration to highway speeds calls for a lot of fuel flow. Fuel filters usually aren't even called out as maintenance items so I wouldn't be surprised if yours is 13 years old. Unless it has been changed in the last couple of years, may as well have that done now also. I think between those two things you have a better than even chance of fixing the problem altogether, and they are good to do anyway.

my guess its the transmission, change the transmission fluid first. but let a good mechanic tell you the problem. since its alot of miles than change regular gas to surpreme to clean the engine from jerking.

I'd suggest getting the car to a shop that does diagnostics. Explain exactly what you said here and pay them to troubleshoot the problem(s).

It's either your transmission going out or you need to have the spark plugs replaced
