What should I do with an old desktop computer?
My son is getting a new one what should we do with the old. If we want to give it away, how do we ensure all personal stuff is properly deleted?

You can always use killdisk. http:\\www.killdisk.com
There is a free version of it, that will be quite acceptable for your situation.

You could always make use of it somehow. Maybe you could keep it as a old school gaming machine and install some controllers and joysticks to it.
Maybe you want to have a seperate computer in another room for internet access, or maybe you can use it for back up.
If not, reformat.

Take out the hard drive and toss the rest of it.
The hard drive is the one with the files.

Err actually you're giving it away so I'll add that. You can reformat the drive and use the OEM CD that it came with to clean the hard drive out and set to the welcome screen (don't assign a login and that. They can do that.) If you updated the software and firmware, you'll need those drivers too.

You COULD boot and nuke it, but it's always more fun to hit the hard drive with a hammer.
