Check with your vet to see which flea preparations are safe for mom cat and kittens ( I think Frontline but I am not 100 % sure). You can use a flea comb and remove fleas from the kittens daily ( remove fleas from the comb with cotton balls and alcohol). Usually topical flea medications work for fleas on the animals, they do not treat fleas that are in the animals environment. You have fleas in the house. Accept that fact and you are on the path to clearing up the problem. Wash the bedding that mom cat and kittens live in. Vacuum your house, every where, move furniture and vacuum. Throw out the vacuum cleaner bag each and every time you vacuum so you don't become reinfested with fleas from the vacuum cleaner. Use a house treatment (area premise) spray (as opposed to bomb). Make sure that it has an IGR listed on the label as an ingredient. IGR stands for Insect Growth Regulator. It is what is going to remain behind to prevent the new hatched flea larvae and immature fleas from completing the life cycle. Use the spray as directed on the can. You can use again if new hatching of fleas need to be knocked down. Best product I know and have experience with is by compay called VET CHEM, product called Siphotrol Area Premise Spray and will treat 2000 sq ft of area. Also guaranteed by company, they have an 800 # to call for information and help.
Good Luck with your kittens
Capstar is a good idea if your kittens are able to take a pill by mouth, if they are just a week or 2 old, not a good idea. If you bathe, make sure first is completely dry before going on to the next kitten, as they can not regulate their body temperature when very young. You can dry using a hair dryer set on low, put in a box with towel and heating pad set on low to help but just for a little while they are drying.

Young kittens are too fragile for something like frontline. The best thing to do is give them baths with dish soap. Clean them up as good as possible, because they can handle the soap usually. It does much less damage than the fleas that cause all kinds of issues for small kittens!
Get them to a doctor, and try to isolate them from other animals. Keep them away from carpet and furniture if possible. The fleas can always jump off onto these surfaces and lay eggs.
I usually bath the kittens at least once a day until they stop scratching and you find little to no evidence of fleas.
Good luck! Fleas can really harm the kittens if they are not handled!

Well, I would brush them all with a flea comb and try to get the fleas out. Also, I would give them all a bath. Be very gentle when giving the kittens a bath. Use very mild dish soap or Kitten Shampoo that is for very young kittens. Use warm water. Then when the bath is done dry them off really good with a warm towel. Let them completely dry in a warm room.
Don't use flea shampoo or flea medication on the kittens. Kittens should be 8 weeks to use flea medication and wiegh at least 2 pounds.

If youre cats do have fleas, I find that front line spot on is the easiest and safest product for the removal of fleas. You simply drop one pipette full onto the back of the neck, but make sure that you're kitten is over 8 weeks of age. Also, find a different vet, most will be willing to examine youre pets and help treat them.

Get Capstar from the vet. It only works for 24 hours but that is all you need. It kills fleas in an instant and they all fall off. I just adopted 2 kittens who were in the shelter after their mom got hit by a car and they were stranded on the side of the highway. All the kittens were crawling with fleas, and Capstar got rid of the immediately. It's amazing.

You need to treat your house as well as the cats. If you have a severe infestation, the kittens could become anemic and become very sick. Call your vet for the best advice.

Stay away from commercial flea products as they contain chemical insecticides that can cause liver damage to both you and your cat/kittens. Try using Target Spray for Fleas instead. An herbal formulation, Feline Target Spray is a safe alternative to insecticides, which can cause liver damage. Its insect repellent action deters cat fleas from making their home on your furry friends.

They sell Adavantage for kittens for this. I have to even put it on my rabbit. It's safe and effective. Maybe if you just put it on your cat your kittens will get some effect from it.

No they don't go away until you go to the Vet and buy something like Frontline. If you don't your entire house will be infested.
