Didier Pironi at Hockenheim in 1982. His feet were chewed up like hamburger. Nelson Piquet ran over to see how he was, then vomited in his helmet. Pironi's driving career was over, and he was never able to walk normally again.

Martin Brundle in Australia 1995 was pretty big, the 10 car Spa pile up was too, alongside Alonso in Brazil the other year. For my money, though I'd have to say Robert Kubica's crash in Canada this year was the worst I'd seen - I honestly thought he would be a goner, but to only walk away with a sprained ankle was amazing.

Mika Hakkinen's crash during practice for the 1995 Australian GP. He crashed into a concrete barrier after his left rear tyre unexpectedly deflated, causing his skull to be broken into 4 pieces.
Lucky for him, this happened in the final race of the season so he could use the 4 month break to heal and return for the first race in the 1996 season (also Australian GP, this time in Melbourne).
He didn't miss a race and went on to win the 1998, and 1999 Drivers Championships.

Niki Lauda at the Nurburgring in 1976:

Jackie Stewart at Spa 1966. Spun off at 165 mph in first lap rain, hitting a utility pole and a shed, trapped in a bent cockpit filled with fuel while Bob Bonduant and Graham Hill had to find a wrench to get the steering wheel off without causing a spark.
I point out these two, because back in those days, most bad accidents in F1 were fatal.

Kubica in Montreal indeed.
But I remember Christian Fittipaldi making a complete backflip in the air before falling again on 4 wheel and continue like if nothing had happened to finish the race... it's was more funny than scary !

Ralf's was pretty scary, i think it was in Indy or something but handsom Bob's is probably the scariest looking crash i've seen a driver walk away from.
