Non-believers/Disbelievers: What is Faith?
I know what we believers mean when we say that we have faith and that you do not. But what is faith, to you?
And please let's all come up with something better than the standard atheist rhetoric such as "a crutch for the feeble minded" and such. Most of you are too bright to descend to this level of response, so give it some thought, and tell me how you define faith.
Point taken Frou Frou. But you must admit that there are many here who do give standard answers.

EVERYBODY has faith, it's faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that separates a Christian from a non-believer.
Faith is the motivating cause behind any action, you can't turn on a light switch without faith that the light will come on or stand up and walk without faith that your legs will hold you.
There is no such thing as a person who does everything based on their own knowledge because knowledge cannot provide choice for future events and therefore to be alive and functioning you need faith.
So the difference is that they accept 99% of the things that we believers accept based on faith but lack the one thing that we define as the critical item to have faith in, which is Christ.
I've had consistent blessings in my life to the point where asking my why I trust in God would be like asking me why I'm about to turn on the light switch; because I know it will work!
They've had experiences like that to but just choose to not believe.

Good question, my boyfriend and I were discussing this the other day. I think that everyone has faith. Just some of us only have faith in justified true beliefs. For example: I have faith that the sun comes up in the morning based on past experience. But I don't have faith in a pink unicorn (god) because there is no provable evidence in that case. Simple as that.

the belif that something is as you believe it is, a 'hope' that it is as you believe it is, and a need for it to be as you believe it is
blind faith, is a different thing, its far more solid, ridgid, unmvable, unshakable, unwaverable, no matter what
if you want atheists to not give a "standard" so much that you actually go so far as to mention it in your question, then maybe its only fair you dont generalise, as we dont all do that

yeah i know that, but that includes all kinds of groups,
basically, there are peopel of all groups who give standard answers, so callign out atheist is not very fair
but hey, doesnt matter, many peopel do this as well, even me, thats the point, we are all flawed

Faith is belief without evidence. Some say belief despite the evidence to the contrary.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things unseen.
Those who have faith, do not require proof. Those who have proof, do not require faith.

I believe~ Faith is to believe in things which are not seen, but are true. I can not see Our Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ, but I know they are real.
