Drafting at #7. would you?

Take Larry Fitzgerald in the first round?

he's project as the 7th best player accoridng to Yahoo. Effectively you would be bypassing LdT, Frank Gore and Steven Jackson if I didnt follow conventional wisdom and take a RB in the first round.

If draft falls according to player ranking (and they rarely do) my team might look like this:

Fitzgerald

Marion Barber

Kevin Smith

Best available QB (i'd love to see Mcnabb last til here)

D. Ward/ L. White/D. Mc Fadden

I would also have Tim Hightower according to our keeper rules.

Is this a sound strategy?

Update:

You're only allowed to keep a player drafted after the 8th round who stays on your roster the entire season. I have two players who qualify- Hightower and Santana Moss.

This player goes in place of your 8th round pick, so you are trying not to overvalue a keeper. Moss doesnt seem worth it. Hightower if he maintains his status as starter would be. We draft labor day weekend, his status will be clearer by then.

Definitely don't draft Fitzgerald that early in the draft. Sure he's nasty, but he relies on a healthy Kurt Warner (and how probable is that?) to put up numbers. Plus, it just makes sense to draft a RB first because they get the most touches on the team. Get a good RB and then pick Fitz if he's still there. Your QB should be your third pick unless there's someone with better value out on the board.

    Good luck!

Why would you be keeping TIm Hightower yet nobody kept Fitzgerald? Hightower won't even be the starter by week 2 the latest and Fitz wasn't kept?

You're basically starting a team from scratch if Hightower is your keeper so draft a RB. It's the most important position and you could take the best WR instead of Smith or Barber.

Why would you think your team would look like that? You are going to take 3 RB's in your first 5 picks with Hightower already there?

You can get good WR later in drafts but not RB's take an RB with your first pick. I with the 7th pick personally would select Brandon Jacobs. GL

Fitzgerald will probably NOT be there. I would consider a running back on a team that doesn't have a committee. Forte or possibly Marion Barber, who IS being used by committee, but is supposedly the Cowboys goal line back is a better choice. I don't think Pittman will still be there, but you can hope!

All the best running backs are probably gonna be taken. so if drew brees or tom brady are available, get them
