Wow, no wonder so many Liberals vote Democrat. Unbelievable the amount of misinformation they have.

The Federal Employee Health Care plan is private insurance. The Interstate Highways were built as part of the National Defense system and are now maintained by the States they run through. The Federal Post office was transformed to a Federal/Private entity some15 years ago because it was so badly run. Libraries, Schools, Fire Departments, Police Departments are all run by State and Local Governments, not the Federal Government. The student loan program is also a Federal/Private entity and has succeeded in degrading the value of a College Degree and forcing up tuition costs. AmeriCorps, the PeaceCorp and JobCorps do not present nearly the bang for the buck that private charities do for the same job. Medicare? Please, look at the link below, Medicare fraud alone is nearly 37 million dollars and look at the unfunded liability we are facing.

Of course the definition of well-run depends on what your goal is.

But the VA's medical system is unbelievable. I had to have my face X-rayed because of a cracked nasal bone. They had 4 different doctors look at it and were ready to operate three weeks later. The only reason I haven't had the work done yet is that I'm in the middle of moving.

That said, while I am extremely liberal socially, I am also extremely conservative fiscally (more than Reagan). Americans are simply soft because we've had it too good for too long. Of those 45 million who are uninsured, how many are in fantastic health compared to the average Briton or German? We don't need routine health care as badly as most people.

Never mind that every time you bring up longevity extension, the scientists' first response is that we shouldn't even try it because we'd overpopulate even faster.

I understand where fiscal liberals are coming from - they think that they can make things better. The problem is that liberals over-estimate the value of human life - things shouldn't get better. They need to get worse. This country is way too fat both literally and economically, and there is a lot of dead weight. Now, that dead weight can be trimmed by plain old capitalism, or it can all fall off at once when the economy collapses. We're going to pick one or the other whether we like it or not.

    The military?

My local fire department seems to get the job done pretty well too.

The idea of the right attacking government administration is an amusing one. Given they have been responsible for the executive branch for 20 of the last 28 years and 28 of the last 40 years, then sure - perhaps their argument that THEY cannot run a government department effectively is warranted. Still - that seems a strange campaign strategy - "Vote for us - look how incompetent we were in the past!"

Oooooo, a BBA. That's a step below a BS in Communication. How about name a well run private program, one such as KBR's $20 per plate meals in Iraq?

    Pilgrim -

You're a liar. There is no such thing as the welfare department.

Not a liberal, but I think the post office seems to do ok.

    But, thats about it.

EDIT: I do not see how people can say the US military is well run, especially when they seem to have trouble keeping the units properly equiped.

I thought you right-wingers were always telling everyone how efficient and well run our military is? And Medicare has less than half the administrative cost of HMO's, with the same standards of care. I'm also a fan of the post office. The line may be a little slower than fedex, but priority mail is usually about $3 versus say, $12 dollars at fedex for the same thing. The post office wins on that one.

The post office, DMV, social security and medicare run VERY well when not being purposefully bankrupted by Neocon Republicans.

The military and fire departments too for that matter.

Source(s): Just more neocon propoganda from you guys.

My mail gets where it is going and costs me $.44 cents. Yes, FedEx gets there a day or two sooner, and costs $8-10 bucks.

Do you send all your letters FedEx? Why not?

EDIT to the folks criticizing Medicare: Want to know why Medicare is not better off financially? Your Republican government haters removed the audit function from this, and other programs. How many folks with "free scooters" actually qualify for the program? How much is pure waste? Guess what, hire a few accountants and find out.
