I would like to believe both. It does bring a couple of things to mind though. The first is that we don't learn from our mistakes. Then again we do learn from our mistakes. I also know that we would like others to learn from our mistakes but forget that the only way we learned was through our own. As far as forgiving, I am not pious. I am not one to judge. If some one does something they feel they might need forgiveness for I tell them " don't worry about it or just forget it ".

First of all, the act of forgiving is a very powerful act, particularly for the forgiver. I don't know that it is possible to completely forget many things, even if you forgive yourself or others. You still carry the memories of the experience with you. However, you can and do learn that forgiving is something that frees you from having to carry the burdens of such things as guilt and anger. Best wishes!

Bunny Bee, that previous asserting is rather a misnomer. maximum folk do not ignore exceedingly if it replaced into some thing that got here approximately to them. TO forgive and ignore many times the forgive comes first and to me, no it is easy to be forgiven of a incorrect doing until eventually they're rather repentant. So now the ignore section exceedingly lots potential that specific, you nevertheless keep in mind yet you study to place it lower back contained in the nook of your suggestions so which you do not deliver it up and use it as previous ammunition against somebody which you already forgave. Now if this guy or woman does an analogous project lower back I assure you that the difficulty you saved lower back there contained in the grey count number will come to the front and be used as the thank you to tutor your self and perchance even the different guy or woman that they curiously somewhat weren't rather sorry because of the fact they did it lower back and for this reason do not deserve the "forgive and ignore" do not permit it tear you up. you only might desire to shield it the main appropriate way.

You had better learn and try never to have it repeated.
This always reminds me of the scene from Starship Troopers ( the book by Hienlien) in which the DI has to report being hit by a trainee. The DI is suppose to push the trainee to where he tries to hit out, but the DI is never suppose to let the blow land. In bring the trainee in on charges, the DI is reporting his own failure. He wants to forgive the trainee, but the trainee asks for a court. Now, the DI must suffer the embarrassment of a court marshal court. He sought to forgive and now, he and the trainee must learn while the Commander must suffer the twin embarrassment of a DI that failed and a trainee too stupid take his lumps.

Forgive and learn - Forgetting is easier said than done. But I take a lesson from my encounters with people and move on with a promise to never land in such a situation again.

It is necessary for us to forgive to release ourselves from the variety of bad feelings that may develop it we do not. I do not believe that we are required to forget, since one, this is unlikely except over time (and really do we ever forget) and two, it is the experience that we learn from, that helps us not to repeat the situation or at least minimize the potential for it reoccurring. The old adage "those who do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it."

Forgiveness is more difficult without forgetting. But forgetting opens us up to repeat abuse. It is better to forgive and learn.
