Is decaf coffee just as hydrating as water?
This lady i work with is telling me this nonsense about how decaf isn't dehydrating her, only drinks with caffeine and alcohol do that.
I told her that impurities like salt, sugar, etc are what dehydrate you, but i didn't mention that decaf still has caffeine in it.
She insists decaf isn't dehydrating her.

Coffee, with caffeine or without, isn't dehydrating. People used to think it was, but research that came out a couple years ago indicated otherwise. It has a diuretic effect, but it doesn't make you lose more fluid than you drink.
I remember hearing on the radio that the official recommendation has changed from eight 8-oz glasses of plain water in addition to other beverages to six 8-oz glasses of any sort of beverage.
Plain water isn't necessarily the best way to hydrate, either. Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water toxicity or "hyponatremia." Hyponatremia literally means "low sodium." It's actually better to have a drink with a little salt in it than to have plain water. Sports drinks have way too much sugar unless you're really burning the calories, of course, but the sodium and potassium in them are actually important for hydration.

why push a silly dispute
You know better
all the hype is "what do you believe"
but salt is added to the diet of people like fire fighters and road workers
and sugar is used to aid hydration when illness - - of body fluids are lost fast
Do not get trapped in nonsense disputes
You can not change them
