Why is AUM used for destruction...? What does it destroy?

Om (also written Aum) is the oldest and most sacred sound found in yoga, Hinduism and Buddhism. Not only does Om represent the entire universe, known as Brahman, it is also said to be the source of all creation. Often described as the "original sound," that which created everything. There is a Life Energy ,force and current which comes from making the sounds of AUM! Om or Aum. Mantric word chanted in meditation. Paramahansa Yogananda called it "the vibration of the Cosmic Motor." This one word is interpreted as having three sounds representing creation, preservation, and destruction. ( interesting to me that this would also be used for destruction).

Please keep your explanations simple...as well as wording....

    Aum is the root Beeja mantra (seed mantra) from Hinduism and also used by Buddhist, Jains and sikhs.

    As respected Radhakrishna ji said it destroys the veil of Maya, destroys the ignorance, the bad karma and the negativity.

    Why is aum sacred..?

    Aum is the most mysterious word in the Universe. It does not belong to any language (not even sanskrit)..and it has no meaning in worldly languages.

    AUM is thought to be the Eternal Sound. IT IS THE SOUND of GOD THAT GIVES CONSCIOUSNESS TO THE MOTHER NATURE TO START ACTING.

    Aum has three sounds A...U....M. ...

    " A " signifies the beginning of the universe.

    U signifies the life period of universe and;

    M signifies the destruction of the Universe.

    Hence Aum is the only word which notifies the three main work of God that is creation, operation and destruction of srishti (Universe). This represents the three first forms of God viz. are Brahmaa (creator), Vishnu (operator) and the destructor (The Shiva).

    Most of the mantra in Hinduism start with the word AUM, because AUM is the consciousness and the other words in a mantra are Nature or Prakriti. AUM in itself is a complete Mantra and its chanting is sacred and brings enlightenment. It is truely called MAHA MANTRA.

    It does not belong to any language...it is primodal vibration of the consciousness which created the universe

    AUM has four steps A...U....M and the last one silent

    A = Physical plane , wake-state of mind, Beginning,Brahmaa,

    U = Astral Plane, dream state of mind, Manifestation,Vishnu,

    M = Causal Plane, dream-less state , Destruction,Rudra

    Fourth unspoken sound = Turiya, beyond universe, Enlightened state

    AUM is a great mantra. It is a Sagun Mantra, Nirgun Mantra and Beeja Mantra alll in One...hence it is called Mantra-raja.. king of all the mantras.

    Recitation of Aum brings peace and happiness, divine visions, Anahad sounds... destroys Maya, ignorance and negativity....and finally Enlightenment

    A U M the Anahat Naad( the sounds that comes without hitting on something). It has three creating, preserving and destroying powers aka Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

    AUM doesn't only destroy but also preserves and creates in the beginning.

    There is no any destruction beyond Maya and there is no meaning of destruction on this part of Maya that is related to the earth. This life on earth is like an exam and an exam needs to be over otherwise OM won't be able to meet its such parts(souls) those are pure and like OM.

    IF we read ShriNasadiyaSooka, we come to know that destruction is very necessary for further creation. When the ShabdBrahman OM devours all this world in it, it still contains the sprouts of Karma in his heart that are used for further creation because the Karma of this world that needs to be compensated otherwise AUM does not any need to create or destroy."Destruction of this world doesn't mean havoc, it means to remove straws from the corns. It means to remove Maya from the soul. It means to break the golden bangle and bring the pure gold out of it"

    SO we should not look down upon its destructive power. On the higher level, catastrophe is like a bank deposit for creation and there is no any worth of creating and destroying this world on spiritual level.

    Hi Love!

    Well ...... The all mighty Creator expects from the heart uniqueness of ones intentions. So for me chanting a repeated phrase isn't what was asked of us all. Meditating on a subject is worthwhile. While meditating the the mind for clearness of thought only.... can be dangerous invitation to the ones God has thrown out of heaven and down to the earth.They are still very powerful influence on mankind.

    God did not create.... so that he could destroy.He did not create Satan just so he could destroy him or his followers either.Destruction comes about as a direct result of how sin entered in to the world.Not by design! The wide path is the one that leads .. To... destruction.

    Nothing is permanent, destruction is part of the cycle of all things that are in a state of change. In Hinduism for example, Shiva the Destroyer is also the god of fertility because, and I might get this a little wrong, but because death and destruction are necessary for renewal, for growth, for creation. Its the balance of the Universe. I have to investigate, but I think many cultures and religions couple destruction with fertility or creation.

    If you wanted to build a house on a vacant lot (creation) you would necessarily start with destruction. What are you destroying? The site as it was before you started.

    Again, in college, I desperately wanted to get the results of better grades. It may have been a stretch and so I thought I would have to make a bargain to "give up" something. What did I give up? A more gregarious nature in exchange for more time to study and a more serious approach to my studies.

    We make bargains all the time. We give up being single in order to be married. We give up a vagabond life in order to have a job. We give up a chance to be selfish in order to accept the opportunity to be selfless. Progress usually involves letting go of some past to accept the new.

    Another and perhaps more modern way to think of this "destruction" is in terms of what it brings about: Transformation.

    Aum represents the all-encompassing cosmos. The cosmos has attributes of creation, destruction and preservation....almost like a trinity. Destruction is merely an aspect of the cosmos.

    No I do not believe it will be a literal fire. The animals have done nothing wrong and I think this time God will take that into account. Only the wicked people needs to leave to make the earth a paradise. I think like psalms says, I remember reading where the last days you will see 10,000 on your right hand and 10,000 on your left but to you it will not go near. Talking to those who would be saved. Birds will eat them. There deaths are not for the wicked people to see but for the survivors. So they will never forget it and sin against God.

    **- Very simple words. -**

    This will be an unpopular answer...No Doubt!

    - Why is AUM used for destruction...? What does it destroy? -

    One must be under the guidance and tutelage of a Sadguru (True Guru), a fully realized human being, a gnani (a gnostic). If one is not given the proper guidance it can possibly destroy ones "Wisdom"!

    One must use extreme caution, regarding what one destroys.

    Man has unlimited tools at his disposal, yet one must know how to use these tools safely.

    It can also manifest within a human being, that which is known as "false wisdom".

    An true aspirant must avoid "false wisdom".

    It's intention and its resonance must be incorporated and applied correctly, if it is to be of benefit to a human being.

    One must establish a connection with a "True Guru".

    *Footnote - Tools: Should one use a thousand pounds of explosives if it only requires an ounce of explosives to complete the task at hand?

    Destruction is a part of the cycle of creation. When a tree falls in the forest, bugs and fungi break it down to nitrates, which feed and fertilize the soil. This becomes food for new trees to grow.

    To have a new creation the old must be destroyed, this is the process of life, to stay the same is to be stagnant. "You can never step into the same river twice."
