Anyone been under contract with a vendor and then they went out of business?
With the economy being what it is, I'm just wondering how many of you brides out there have had the nightmare of having one of your vendors go out of business. Our original caterer went out of business but we were fortunate enough to have gotten our deposit back. Our second caterer went under new management and the new manager wouldn't honor the previous contract so refunded our deposit. We were lucky both times and got our funds back but I've heard horror stories of brides going in for their fittings just to find out the store went out of business and they couldn't get their money back.

Yup. We put down our deposit with our florist. A month or so later my husband went to go pay more on the bill of the deposit. She gladly took the credit card and said that everything was good to go. When he went 2 weeks later to pay the deposit he finds out from the new owner that a week earlier she sold the business and filed bankruptcy. The wench took our money knowing that she was about to sell. The new owner did not honor our contract or would refund us (you are so lucky, girl!) so we had to find a new florist and luckily we did. My husband disputed the charges and we got our money back and she was set to go to court earlier this summer for breech of contract to not only us but 5 other couples.
The only day the new florist had available was our wedding day (thank God). I was, and still am, so pissed off. She lives in the same area I do and I told my husband that if I ever see her he better not hold me back lol. She almost ruined our day. If she had just called to tell us that she was going under, refunded us our money (or told the new owner to honor our contract) everything would've been fine.

I went to a wedding last weekend. Three weeks before the wedding the bridal shop owner who had the bride's dress locked up shop and disappeared with all the money. I guess she was missing a few days before she turned herself in to the police because she felt bad for possibly ruining all those weddings.
This economy makes people do terrible things! They were lucky the owner found her conscience.
