Describe the taste of parsnips?

I've never had parsnips before, and I'm thinking of giving them a try. I'd like to add them to my chicken and root-vegetable soup. But at 2 bucks a pound, I don't want to get some, and then not like them. Can someone give a detailed description of how they taste? Thanks for the input!

I have had them before, and I can tell you that they are not bitter. They are similar to carrots in flavor, only not as strong, and they and are a little firmer in texture.

I really don't like them. They're kind of bitter, strong and sharp tasting. They're a little like radishes and not for everyone. They probably won't be too bad if they're cooked and mixed in with your other ingredients.

I like them. Imagine if you crossed a carrot with a potato. That's what they taste like. They aren't bitter.
