My pulse is high, is heart attack imminent?
As a 58 yr old woman on drive home from work I experienced severe chest pain, and noticed throbbing of left side of neck. Once home bp read at 159/93 pulse 162. I am taking blood pressure medicine daily. (no cell signal available in area between job and home for 20 minutes.) 10 minutes later it read 114/85, pulse 158. As I rested more it went away. Should I be worried?

Dear Carolyn, I'm concerned, and you should be as well. Your maximum heart rate is 162 at your age, and your incident was dangerously close to putting you out of commission, possibly for good. There are just too many things that could have caused this incident. You should seek medical help. Some of the causes could be : Caffeine, Stress, Anxiety, Amphetamines, Dehydration, a thyroid problem, and the list goes on and on... normally most e.r docs would order a short ekg to make sure you're alright in the short term, and send you to your primary care physician. In this case, i hope you push the doctors to do further tests than that. You could've had a blood clot, or SVT. I hope you've seen a doctor by the time you see this.
And i hope you realize that Yahoo is no place to look for serious medical advice, especially in cases like yours.
You'll be in my prayers.

yes, you should be worried. that pulse of yours is out of control! if youre having any chest pains (and you havent been prescribed nitro tablets and have gone through the rigmarole of taking 1, wait a couple minutes, repeat blah blah blah), then you need to seek out a medical evaluation! women may have different signs and symptoms of heart attacks (for whatever reasons i dont have time to explain). its better to error on the side of not getting yourself into more trouble by not going in!
EDIT: did i mention that you should go in?

Yes. You may be fine, but you may have experienced a heart attack. I strongly reccomend that you go to your nearest emergency room immediately for an EKG.

The heat can raise the blood pressure, and can cause a heart attack in people who are prone to it.
