Poison ivy/oak/sumac/ THIS ITCHES HELP!?

I got a bit of poison ivy a few weeks ago. It has since spread all over my lower legs and on my wrist. There are concentrated spots that have a bit of a purple color. Should I be worried?

No, but the truth about poison ivy is that if you do not leave it completely alone it will not go away. It needs to dry out, and just about anything over the counter does not work, trust I just took my husband to the Emergency room because of it about a month ago. They explained all of this to us. He is extremely allergic, but I know you are not, or it would be horrible for you, and not just on your legs anymore. You need to just make a dr. apt. they will give you a cream and some steroid to take for about a week, and it will be cleared up. You will notice it going away in one day. You can ride it out, but if your not good at leaving it alone it will be a long road ahead. I hope this helps, and good luck getting rid of it. Oh, and dont be worried some skin is just more susceptible to the poison than others.

I've had poison oak a lot, and usually you don't need to worry. It will always spread more if you scratch it, though. Using Cortisone cream/gel helps with this.

If it is spreading VERY quickly and you are noticing a LOT of swelling, you could be particularly sensitive to it, and you might want to get it checked out.

If you ever notice again that you have wandered into poison oak/ivy (BEFORE you break out), you can take a shower with Tecnu shampoo/wash immediately after, and that usually reduces how bad of a rash you will get.
