Recently put in IUD, now bleeding, am I allowed to use tampons?

I wasn't told I couldn't... But I was told not to have sex for 2 weeks to prevent infection, since my cervix had to be opened up to place the IUD in. Does that mean I am not allowed to use tampons as well? I would call, but it's Sunday, closed. I've been wearing pads, yuck!

Update:

HAHA you're the first person to ask me that! everyone thinks it is me! haha...

i am in a yahoo fantasy football league. my team's name is Erin Andrews.

:)

Update 2:

Ooooh... yeah okay, i am not worried about it.

Update 3:

FYI: I am healthy. No STD's : )

Is waiting 2 weeks not a normal range?

    Yes you can.

The only thing is to make sure and check the strings after each period to make sure that you can still feel them so that you can be sure the IUD was still in the correct position and did not slip down or up.

A tampon is allowed a week after the IUD has been inserted.

You have to wear pads until your cervix has closed up otherwise you run the risk of introducing bacteria into your cervix and beyond. I know pads can feel gross but better safe than sorry. Take care.

I would avoid tampons for 2 weeks as they may introduce bacteria into your opened cervix.

Much, much better to feel bleeech because of pads then to be rendered permanently infertile by infection.

Amanda, her doctor clearly stipulated no risky behaviour for 2 weeks. Considering we don't know this lady's medical history, is it best to follow doctor's orders. Do you want to take responsibility?

This website advocates waiting a month: http://www.moh.gov.sc/intrauterinedevice.htm

and I have seen others that recommend a mere 3 days.

I personally advocate following doctor's orders.
