Does saluting equate to relinquishing your authority?
I am currently in ANCOC, and a debate came up as to whether or not the platoon SGT relinquishes authority for accountability during PT to the PT instructor. When we complete the PT session, the PT Instructor is supposed to ask the PLT SGT if everyone is present for the AAR. Today's PT Instructor said he is in charge during that time, not the PLT SGT, and is therefore accountable for all personnel. Is this right?

The platoon sergeant is always accountable for all his troops. It is no different than going to the chow hall, just because the cooks run the DFAC doesn't mean that they are in charge of the people inside. If your Soldiers attend a first aid class the medic teaching hasn't commandeered your platoon, he's simply standing in front of the group as a subject matter expert.
It's said a lot (and even in the various Army study guides, you can delegate everything but responsibility (accountability).
