  • Army online training certificate?

Has anyone completed the Army AMEDD distance learning phase of ALC? If so, do you know of a way to find and print a certificate of completion? I didn't realize the Blackboard would erase the course after a set time.

Please don't reply with speculation. Please don't reply with information that was current in 1976. Please don't reply with, "you should ask..."

  • Marines assigned to US Navy ships?

On the USS New York's website it lists the crew as being 360 Sailor and 3 Marines. What are the three Marines for? Please no guessing.

  • Army GSA travel card?

Does anyone know where a Soldier can go to print a certificate for the Army's required GSA credit card training? The training is offered through ALMS. None of my troops or I can find where (if anywhere) the certificates are saved. Thanks.

  • Christmas break travel idea?

I have about 2 weeks off from university (I'm in the US) that I want to spend traveling. Last year I visited the Yucatan region of Mexico and had a good time. I'd like someplace warm, attracts the hostel-type tourists, and is reasonably affordable. If anyone has any experiences or ideas they would like to share I'd appreciate all input.

  • Bicycling Lake Erie towards Canada?

I'm planning a one day (fast) trip from Cleveland to Niagara Falls. Has anyone cycled this route before? It looks like highway 5 is the best way to go, since interstate 90 (running mostly parallel) would get the heavy traffic. Is anyone familiar with this area? Any info would be appreciated.

  • Jeep air conditioner replacement?

My 2002 Jeep Liberty has been blowing hot air this summer. The dealer's shop gave me a quote of $2000 (minimum) to replace the compressor. I'm thinking of doing it myself. I do most of my own maintenance but never touched an AC unit.

I've read some forums talk about "special equipment" yet I don't see what it could involve that can't be found in a typical toolbox. It seems like a fairy straightforward, though time consuming, job.

My understanding is that the compressor and condenser get changed at the same time, does the orifice tube need changed at this time as well?

Am I silly to think that I can tackle this in a day?

  • TI-83 Plus program problems?

Using a TI-83+ graphing calculator I typed in the quadratic formula as a stored program. When I typed in a quadratic equation and prompted it to use the stored quadratic formula it doesn't do any math, it simply puts the text "prgmQUADRAD" behind the equation.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to load something onto the TI-83= before inputting stored equations?

  • parts per million calculation?

I've been staring at this question for an hour now. If anyone could show me the method used for determining the answer I'd appreciate it.

How many grams of lead are contained in 6.0x10^3 (ten to the 3rd)grams of blood? Lead content is 0.62ppm.

    Thanks.

  • stats question: find percentage?

I can't find an example in my textbook. If you could show me the equation I'd appreciate it. The question goes like this.

Men's heights are normally distributed with the mean 69.0 inches, standard deviation 2.8 inches.

The US Marines require men to be between 64 and 80 inches tall. Find the percentage of men who meet this requirement.

    Thanks for your assistance.

  • debatable values regarding tax write-offs?

As I understand it most items can be written off your taxes base on market value, such as Kelley Blue Book listings for cars donated to charity. Or written off based on the amount of cash the charity gets when they auction/sell the item you donate.

How does this valuing system work for things that cannot easily be assigned a value? Therapy dogs come to mind. If I raise dogs (I don't) and they are used in therapy akin to a mental health treatment plan then they would, at least on the surface, be worth as much as a degree in psychology. Though I doubt the IRS would let somebody claim that amount.

Or time. If you teach Boy Scouts to play baseball do you write this off based on your usual earnings per hour, or what the value is perceived at? If you played minor league ball you could probably claim a higher rate than an average American.

  • Super important enlistment question!!!?

I really want the big green job factory to straighten out my life for me. I want a lot of money for college (even though I only finished high school out of my teachers' sense of charity) and I will ONLY enlist for special forces! I have five kids from three different women, I hope that DEERS and Tri-Care can sort them all out 'cause I sure can't!

I really was going to join when I was younger, but all my stints in and out of jail and addiction treatment took up all my time. Will the Green Berets respect me more since I'm older? I mean, I have a lot of real world experience that some young punk can't possibly bring to the table!

  • Deer hunting. How to get started?

I would like to get started hunting deer. I think I'm a little old to join a mentors program, but I really don't know anything about what to do after the deer is shot. None of my friends hunt. Are there clubs or organizations that I should be looking into?

  • Resizing topographical maps?

I have a USGS 1:24,000 scale map (saved in PDF) that I would like to resize to a 1:25,000 so that it can be used with military protractors. Will resizing the map affect the accuracy? Does anyone have experience with this? Mathematically it should be reduced to 96%, but when I simply hold the protractor up to my monitor (viewed as full size) it appears to require reduction to 91%. Any advice on this matter?

  • MS Excel formula question?

I am making a spread sheet for my Army Reserve unit. To keep track of when people have passed their renewal/re-certify date on specific training I would like to place a formula (like a COUNTIF) at the bottom of the column of dates. The formula would have to be able to count the number of cells that have a date past today. So it one person was due to re-certify last week, and another person was due to re-certify last month it would return a value of two.

I'd appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.

  • US college rape statistics for report?

I have always heard that a college age woman has a 25% chance of being sexually assaulted during her 4 year term in college. The Department of Justice studies I've found all indicate an 8% occurrence of sexual assault (but within a one year time frame only).

Does anyone know what study is being cited for the 25% chance? If you know a link to the publication that would be even better. My presentation is a comparison of sexual abuse in college and prisons.

  • Deployment opportunities for Navy Nurse Corps Officers?

Aside from assignments at mainland CONUS and overseas Naval hospitals what are some opportunities for Naval Nurse Corps officers? Are there billets with USMC brigades or Sea-Bee battalions? Any personal insight would be appreciated. Vague speculation by civilains is not required. Thanks.

  • Are all ribbons required to be worn on Army dress uniform?

Regarding the Army: I've read AR 670-1 several times and I cannot find an answer. Are enlisted members required to wear all ribbons that they were awarded when in the class B or class A uniform? They can get beat up fairly quick, and they're not cheap.

When I started out in the Navy it was common to see Chiefs wearing only their three highest awards when in khaki for this reason.
