Why is there something, instead of nothing?

Before you answer "God", consider that if God exists, then he would definately be considered something.

Also, try to avoid Special Pleading.

Update:

Cassandra007: I didn't ask, "how do I know that there is something and not nothing?"

Update 2:

qxzqxzqxz: So there is no overlap or conncetion between religion and philosophy? That's new to me.

Update 3:

francisc: Unless we are changing the definition of the words "something" and "nothing" then something definately exists. Even if its just the solipsism.

We know that "nothingness" does not exist in this universe, even space/time has a fabric and structure. Fields and virtual particles permeate every little part of our universe. So going from our experience here we could say, if it ain't here why would it be anywhere.

The other possibility is that there can only be one sort of "nothingness" whereas, the possibilities of existence seem almost infinite, not just the forms of matter and energy as we know them, but matter and energy existing in forms that we do not know or even forms of existence that we cannot imagine. So just on a statistical probability "nothingness" is a long shot.

because something went wrong with nothing - on a quantum level. if in nothingness somethings can appear and disappear and/or annihilate each other within the Planck time (10^-43 seconds) somethings will not exist. so why do they? because given enough time (infinite) nothing will eventually undergo enough quantum variation/fluctuation that something (matter) becomes an inevitable outcome.

Have you ever pondered the concept of NOTHING. I personaly no of no place where there is nothing. Even in the void of deep space there is light, which is something. The air on earth is full of gases. Getting to god, Did god create nothing before it created something, If one conciders gravity to be something, thewre is no place that has nothing. I cannot concieve of nothing. Even when one says something cannot come of nothing. If that is a fact, then something has allways been. Even when things die they leave back the atom that they were made of. Or in simpeler terms. Energy.

because everything has a beginning and every small thing is related to something which is bigger than it...nothing in this life comes just like that,it must have an origin....and this origin, this something is definitely called "God" who created all this and God himself has no origin......don't let your mind think in this wrong way....i wish you luck

Teleological answers don't address mechanistic questions.

In other words, there is no answer to "why" when dealing with physical reality, only "how".

This question made my head hurt. I do think whatever happened in the beginning that it is relevant to temperature.

  • There is something? Are you sure? I always thought it was an illusion. :-) How do you know this isn't what "nothing" looks like? Can you really trust your brain on that? </joking>

Because you perceive something instead of nothing.
