Why does anyone believe the health reform myths?

I'll just start with one of the largest myths on this site: People who don't have Health Insurance don't have it because the are cheap and irresponsible- health care is available to anyone willing to pay for it.

Reality: There are between 12 and 15 million American Citizens- not illegals- who have no access to any affordable private or government run health care. Only 6 million could get it from work and choose not to.

And unlike many of you, I am more than willing to provide a link to prove my statement.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements...

Update:

Bong Boy- did you read the link? That isn't happening nearly as often as claimed. Twice as many have no access than chose not to pay in. And of the who opt out, some may be buying TVs but other might just need the extra cash to pay rent.

Update 2:

G Girl- you can't read either. 12 to 15 million can not buy in- they don't say why but it is most likely that they have a pre-existing condition or got tossed from their plan because they got sick and expensive.

Why is that such a foreign concept? I dare anyone to call insurance companies and ask to buy insurance. Then tell them you were born with a heart defect or perhaps you have rheumatoid arthritis. Come back and tell me who will insure you.

Update 3:

50 million includes everyone- including those who are currently eligible for medicaid/medicare and haven't signed up and wealthy people who could buy.

I focused on those that can't buy because so many republicans claim they don't exist.

spot on - except the uninsured are nearer 50m

twhats weird is that the wingnuts have swallowed lies AGAIN

every time an idea is proposed that would make the capitalist market work better, and threaten the insurance companies status quo, they whip the wingnuts up with talk of socialism,

and then, if reform doesnt pass, the wingnuts will be the ones who get screwed by the insurers (cos whos going to pay for wingnut care !)

And how many of those millions could apply for medicaid but do not fill out the paperwork?

How many could we cover by simply expanding our current programs instead of a complete systemic change?

Here is another myth: Its all about getting everyone health insurance.

EDIT: Once you start costing the insurance company more than you pay into it via premiums IT ISNT INSURANCE. Its asking someone else to pay for you. That is why they establish caps -- so they can drop you out of fairness to the rest of thier clients.

The reason healthy people can't afford insurance isn't because of corporate greed. Its because the cost of the sick is unfairly passed onto them.

Obama keeps saying it's 50 million. So why should I believe anything else he says?

If they aren't "poor" enough to qualify for govt-subsidized health care, then they CAN afford it. As James (above) pointed out, many of these people have luxuries (cable, car payments, ipods, etc.), which means their priorities are screwed up.

Add: Actually, I DO have a heart defect. Also, heart disease runs in my family.

Big Corporations have got so many people completely fooled.

Fools would rather continue to make insurance companies rich, instead of having their money actually go towards health care.

If you can't afford it for yourself what makes you think others can pay for it for you. tax payers are being robbed by the government as it is and everybody wants a piece of the pay check. I'm sorry but I can't afford to pay for health care either.

    madart,

when a person buys a Large Screen TV, WII Nitendo System, Ipod, music from Itunes...before they get insurance

it tells me they have no priorities....

People need to struggle to get something....it's a balance. That's part of freedom.

When you grant everything to everyone..you will end up hurting everyone all together.
