Why are so many who are against health care reform?
for Medicare? I don't get how you can argue that Obamacare is socialism and not see that Medicare is socialism also? Please explain.
No Timothy P, I actually am against Obamacare primary because Medicare is bankrupt and unsustainable. I do though see so many people who scream and shout about how Obamacare is socialism but then go on and support Medicare. They are one and the same, the only difference being the amount or people covered.
Paul L, Medicare is too a government handout. You don't get out of it what you pay into it. It's a tax, not a savings system. You pay the tax no matter what, you can't opt out, if you die your family doesn't get the money back. It's a handout!

Because they are opposed to government handouts unless it is a government handout to them then it is okay because they deserve it. They are really riled up that Democrats want to cut some wasteful spending from Medicare and think that this means they won't get what they need. It is all greed and selfish self interest.

Many people DO understand that Medicare is socialism, but it's all they have right now.
Medicare has been around for decades. People have been paying into it and since the federal government is still draining resources(money) from the private sector and driving up costs of everything including health care many have to rely on it for now.
Obamacare hasn't been passed. We can still show people that there ARE better solutions than what the Democrats have been proposing.
Medicare is socialism, Obamacare(with the public option) is socialism. Medicare is not easy to get rid of, YET. Obamacare can be stopped or at least changed to something that fixes the problems that need to be fixed, without a public option and without destroying what DOES work in the current system.
Take one thing at a time. Make sure we get proper reform. If that happens and we get true tax reform and tort reform, maybe we can phase out medicare, medicaid and maybe even social security. With proper reform people will be able to afford the insurance they believe they need.

are you actually using a failed and bankrupt system as an example to support the health care package?
Medicare is a system that I am forced to pay in to that I will never get a dime back out of. It was forced on us by the same corrupt government that raided the account. Instead of the current medicare patients saving for this, the money was taken away from them and sqandered by our leaders. Do you really want to give them more?

I am against the health care reform for many reasons, but I, like many others, don't think Medicare was a good idea either.
Medicare is going bankrupt soon, and it is unfortunate that it has caused so many people to become reliant on the government because it will continue to run and therefore raise taxes on the working people of America.
As Ronald Reagan said, "The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program."

Because medicare helps support the old who cannot work for a living and medicaid is for low income households with children. The general population that can fend for themselves does not need the government to control their health care. Besides Medicare and Medicaid are broke and so would be universal health care

For these and many many more reasons:
-we don't want the gov't having access to our private medical records.
-we don't want the new health bureau having access to our IRS records.
-we don't want the new health bureau being able to take money directly out of our bank accounts (any more than they already do).
-we don't want to spend several billions on playgrounds and other pork projects in the name of "public health."
-don't want government to have any justification for governing our health habits, with their ideas on taxing sodas, taxing fried foods, etc.
And the reason why people say "Don't touch my Medicare" is because they already PAID for it. They aren't asking for a government handout -- they are asking the government to keep their end of the bargain.
We are tired of the spread of socialism and we're drawing a line in the sand right here--
"You shall not pass!"
This bill is dead, but Harry Reid is too afraid to tell you. Accept it and move on.

I think because the Obamacare is looked at as being taxed to provide health care for those who do not/will not work.
Medicare is looked at as something that is taken from our pay now to provide care for us when we are older.
That is how most people I talk to look at Medicare......... you are paying into a fund that you will use later, however misconstrued that is.

As a Conservative, I for one, agree with you. Medicare IS socialism... and it is destroying our economy. That being said, it's already inextricably woven into our economy and a tremendous challenge to change/eliminate. Modifying it will be a tremendous undertaking. With that in mind, WHY is it a good idea in anybody's mind to add even MORE national debt by establishing yet another government health care program?

Some of them are against Medicare as well, personally, but they would never come out and advocate for it to be undone.
They would anger a lot of seniors who depend on it, and their party would truly be "in the woods" forever.

The "KEY" word in your question is (Reform).
Not many will dispute that.
The word you left out which is the very essence of "Obamacare" is CONTROL.
Many will dispute that.
Whether its control of what insurance I carry, control of who I see, control of my medical records, control of my choices, control of what I may put into MY body. CONTROL is why.
And at this time in our economic future MONEY would weigh in on this political project as well.
