When is the "weightlifting will stunt your growth" myth going to die?

There is a lot of research out there that shows the opposite, yet people still go around throwing around that myth. This is probably a major contributor to the obesity epidemic - scare the kiddies into thinking they won't grow if they don't exercise, so just let them sit on their fat piggy a**es and get even fatter.

So, do you think this unfortunate myth will ever die, with all the knowledge that we have? Or are people too stupid to learn?

It will die when people decide to actually learn about a topic before they try and teach others.

  • never.....however I doubt that kids are getting fat becuase people are telling them that using weights will stunt their growth, kids can get healthy and lose weight without lifting weights, simply by doing sports. Whether the "weightlifting will stunt your growth" statement is true or not, there seems little point making kids get into weight training prior to or during puberty. I can only speak from my own experience but I only really started to see the gains I wanted after I finished puberty

my weightlifting coach advised me that in case you raise sufficient weight, till now you're like 12-thirteen you could flatten your growth plates. yet he stated you may could be squatting like 3 hundred lbs on a conventional foundation. as quickly as you hit severe college, you wont have any issues. i might say in case you're nevertheless thirteen i might attempt to maintain it decrease than two hundred lbs, yet once you're tall sufficient already, i wouldnt concern approximately it. i've got conventional adult adult males who have been complete grown by potential of that age and have been benching 3 hundred by potential of their freshman 365 days

when it becomes untrue it will die i suppose , and just because weightlifting isn't advised doesn't mean that kids can't exercise . thats just an excuse for being lazy .

There is a huge difference between being active and lifting heavy weights...

I am sure that all health visitors and children's professionals know how to advise parents on healthy diets and active lifestyles for their offspring without asking parents to get their children to weight train...

    your point being?
