Has Anyone Tried This? How Did You do It? I want to send DVD player video to an LCD computer monitor.?
I have an Acer LCD widescreen computer monitor with both a VGA and a DVI-D input. I want to use it as a monitor from a progressive scan home DVD player. The DVD player has component video outputs. Audio is not an issue; that part was a cinch. IS there an easy way to send the video from the DVD player to the computer monitor without having to go through a computer?

No easy way to do it.
Component is NOT compatible with VGA or DVI. If you want to convert the component signal from your DVD player to VGA or DVI, you will need to buy a signal converter box that can translate the component signal to DVI or VGA.
I wouldn't bother with that. Instead of spending money on a converter box, I'd rather buy a Blu-Ray player instead, which should work with DVI on most widescreen monitors (widescreen monitors with DVI are usually HDCP-compliant). And Blu-Ray players can play back both standard DVDs and high-definition Blu-Ray discs.
