should non-smokers take "non-smoking breaks"?

the smokers at my jobs spend an average of 40 minutes a work day (10 minutes every 2 hours for an 8 hour work day) on break to smoke in addition to their lunch so they only working a fraction of what smokers work. should non-smokers get an additional 40 minute break each day?

Update:

sorry I waste time by jumping..can't help it. i know im a bad employee for having a military injury and not as productive as a civilian.

Update 2:

I can't talk to my boss cause if I complain he'll write me up. Other people complained about things and all were written up. so you learn to keep your mouth shut. it is also hard not to notice when people are leaving cause 1. my cubicle is right by the entrance and 2. I have service-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and jump when someone passes by my cubicle.

Update 3:

sorry I waste time by jumping..can't help it. i know im a bad employee for having a military injury and not as productive as a civilian.

Buy a pack a cigarettes, and when the group goes out for break, go out with them. Light the cigarette, and just let it burn. If anyone ask what you are doing, just say "taking a smoke break" You just have to use imagination.

It's your boss's fault for allowing it. So instead of complaining, fit in.

If there's no solution, then there's no problem.

YES!!!! I used to get so irritated when I worked at a restaurant and the smokers would be like "im going out for a smoke break" and they would be gone for 10-15 minutes. I was the only non smoker and so when all of them would go out at the same time I would be covering the whole floor by myself. If you get extra breaks to work on your lung cancer and emphysema, then I should get extra breaks to get some fresh air.

Uh, at least where I live, by law, everyone who work 8 hours is entitled to two 15 minute breaks, in addition to (usually unpaid) lunch breaks.

That ONLY the smokers at your workplace seem to know this isn't their fault.

Yes, everyone should take a break in every 4 hour block of time they work.

Uh, could you ask to swap cubicles with someone?

I had a job that allowed people to go have their smoke breaks whenever they wanted. So some of us non-smokers decided every time these people took a break we were too. At one point our boss did get mad at us for just hanging out doing nothing but we pointed out that people were outside on a break so we were taking one too. He also tried to threaten to write us up but if he fired us for taking a break while other people were we could get him in trouble for it. Thats why I like jobs that either one say you get so much break time a day do with it as you wish and how your going to break it up or just say you don't get extra breaks period!

I am a smoker myself and I often wonder how the non-smokers see us, very unfair, I agree because of all the extra break time that we get. I always encourage the non smokes to go for slightly longer lunch or more breaks. I think it is only fair that they get their breaks too. :)

Smokers at work are a pain in the butt, everytime they need to smoke they leave everyone else to do their job, no way, not anymore.

When they go to smoke, I go to the mens room, and then into the break room, and return when they do.

They cost the company, and our @$$hole boss doesn't have the balls to say anything to them.

The smokers at my job take exactly the same amount of break time as non smokers. So why don't you speak to your boss if you have a problem with them. Also it seems you have wasted time keeping an eye on your fellow workers.

Whenever the "smokers" get up to do their thing follow them out there

and stand up wind from them and take your break.

When your boss asks... tell him you feel compelled to join the smokers and actively take a no-smoking break with them.

sure it is called coffee breaks..i worked at a place where on of the non smokers stood out there with the smokers..

Sure. I'm a smoker, but I never took a "special" break. If my co-workers didn't get a break, then I didn't take one.
