Why is a standard stock better than a pistol grip stock on a shotgun?
Ive been looking at pistol grip stocks for a shotgun but i keep running into people who say its less accurate, what i want to know is by how much? what are other advantages does a standard stock have to a pistol grip. I like the pistol grip its more practical to me for a "inside the house" situation, keep my arms close, better profile for doorways etc. but that is not a day to day thing and hopefully never but i do plan to shoot it at the range, a lot more than i plan to clear houses. So basically what is your opinion and why?
ps its a pistol grip with a buttstock, not just pistol grip alone
also recoil is not a problem i plan to use a knoxx stock regarless of configuration

I assume you're talking about a shoulder stock with a pistol grip and not just a pistol grip. Obviously a pistol grip would be less accurate because you can only shoot it from the hip. I really don't see how a pistol grip stock would make a shotgun or any long-gun less accurate. One thing it will do is help you manage recoil better by transferring more of it into your hand and less into your shoulder. I also don't think accuracy matters very much with a combat shotgun anyway. I have two of them. A Mossberg 590 Mariner with an aftermarket pistol grip stock and a Winchester 1300 Defender with a standard stock. I can't tell which is more accurate. It's pretty much impossible to miss with either one of them. Shooting 00 buckshot at silhouette targets at 10 yards I always hit them with all 9 pellets. As long as the front site is on your target you can't miss. Remember, a shotgun with an 18-20" barrel is only good to about 25 yards anyway.

When you want to hit with aimed fire you want stability. A shoulder is unmoving and consistent compared to a variable right wrist holding a pistol grip. Sights are useless with a pistol grip as you can't position your head to see them right. The only thing a pistol grip gives you the ability to do is go around corners better.
A standard stock allows you to hunt and have home defense at the same time. Pistol grips are illegal for shotgun hunted game. Like I said before, regular stocks are more accurate as you can make use of your sights. Don't believe the movies when it comes to shotguns, legal barrel lengths have to be aimed to hit anything. One other item great about standard stocks is the butt of the gun becomes a weapon if you run out of ammo.

Shotguns have a kick, and a standard stock gives you a recoil pad to help take the abuse LOL. The pistol grip will allow the recoil to go right to your wrist, and that can hurt. Plus, if you have a pistol grip, your not going to want to aim the thing right.

a pistol grip is for shortening the gun in combat situations, not meant to be aimed, but pointed at the target and hoping it hits, but personally, I like folding stock or collapsible one like the ones used on M4 assault rifles.
they give you the compact feel of a pistol grip when folded and give you a buttstock needed for good accuracy when opened up

As long as it has a standard butt stock with integral pistol grip or a separate one like on the ARs and AKs it should not effect accuracy.

You can't reall aim as well with a pistol grip. You can only aim in a general direction. And shotguns have universally a lot of recoil which can also throw off aim.

I think the pistol grip shotgun is a good idea, as long as its not a top saftey model like th Mossberg 500a.

A shot gun is a shoulder fired weapon, not a handgun. The reason it was made that way was to transfer the resulting kick to a more substantial part of your body.
Go ahead on to the range and when your wrist gives out switch hands. If it had a shoulder stock like came on it, you wouldn't have that problem.

It helps avoid lawsuits after you pop the B.G. in your house.
A standard full length stock always looks best to a jury... and it's HOME DEFENSE... you aren't playing GI joe at that point.
I'll probably get my thumbs down right... about... now.
