My water pressure has gone up ?

The water pressure has gone up in my house. The toilets make really loud noises, and runs for a long time. The shower has more pressure. I have been in this house for four years and it has never been this strong. The house is fairly young. I have a well. I s this a good thing or bad ? What should I do ?

You said you have a well so therefore somewhere in the line coming in from the well you have a pressure switch. Should be located next to an expansion tank. You can adjust the switch to kick the pump off at a lower pressure providing the switch is still in working condition.

When these switches get old they get corroded. Suggest you try adjusting the kick off pressure (usually by rotating an adjustment screw located on the top of the switch). Remember there are 2 adjustments, one to kick the pump on at a certain pressure, one to kick it off when the high pressure hits the screw setting.

Don't call in a plumber, you can do this, Home Depot can help.

Outside near the curb, there should be your water valve, it will be covered up by a square foot (rectangular though) cover. If you open this you can adjust the water pressure going into your house. Good luck! (if you have no idea what you are doing, you could probably find a neighbor that does.)

I would have a plumber look at your pressure regulator valve. If the pressure in your house is over 85 psig, than you are usually required by local plumbing code to install one.

If youve gone 4 years and thats never happened that its probably a bad thing. You should call a plumber or just wait a week or 2 and see if it changes

do you have city water or a well? if you have a well, it is likely that something is wrong with your pressure switch that is making your pump run longer. If you have city water, you should give the water company a call.
