Is it even plausible for the Yotes play in Hamilton this year?

From what Ive read, it seems Balsillie is only interested in the Coyotes if he can have them moved to Hamilton THIS season. I dont even see how that's a possibility. Even if he wins the bankruptcy case to purchase the team, wouldn't he still have to go through another court procedure in Canada to solidify the move? I would assume the Leafs and the NHL would use the Canadian courts to try to stop the move, thus slowing down the process and leaving Balsillie with no time to relocate. Can any1 clarify this for me?

It's very possible. The mayor of Hamilton has informed Balsillie and the NHL that the home dates currently assigned to the Coyotes are free (or can be made free on short notice).

What this means is that all those flights that Dallas, San Jose, Los Angeles, and Anaheim have booked for Phoenix - will need to be rebooked for Hamilton/Kitchener/Toronto.

While the league would have you believe that this is a major headache.........it can be easily accomplished (especially with charter flights and it happens several times a year as it is).

However, you are correct in stating that if the NHL gets handed a ruling today (or next Wednesday) in Balsillie's favour. There will be lawsuit on top of lawsuit.

As this is a professional sporting entity (as opposed to a retail entity), the Canadian Competition Bureau has already stated that the NHL's rules are perfectly acceptable (February 2008 ruling for the NHL against Balsillie in the Predators issue - a case brought to the CCB by Balsillie and lost) and this ruling has been submitted to the court in Arizona.

I highly doubt that the Coyotes will play in Hamilton this year, but possibly in the next 4-5 years. Maybe not Hamilton, but Kitchener/Waterloo and Toronto are both big enough markets to house an NHL team. Toronto could have 2 teams, Hamilton could get it, nobody knows. The Coyotes could even move back to Winnipeg, or g to Quebec City.

If the coyotes stay, possibilities of the Thrasher, Panthers and even the Red Wings, believe it or not since the car industry is struggling, moving any of these other teams could work or they can just wait for a 2 team expansion before 2015

This year? What was that saying Mythbusters use to debunk something? BUSTED! This lowlife typing has to disagree with LITY: the logistics of moving the team on September 12th (don't want to say September 11th...) to Hamilton and setting up shop there in under a month is not possible. I don't care how much money Balsillie has, it can't slow down time. I think the whole shpeal about moving the team to Hamilton this season was just a tactic made by Balsillie, nothing more.

I'm not answering the question but i read that one guy said that the Wings could move....??????

They have great fan support, great merchandise sales, high ticket prices and one of the leagues best attendances... they're and original team with great history and the NHL would do any thing it could to keep the team in Detroit if any thing every happened.

Your right about the Thrashers but the Wings? you're horribly wrong and in this subject dont know what your talking about.

I might as well answer the question....

no, the season starts in just a bit, if they moved they'd change their name so there would be no merchandise to sell, there is no season ticket holders so the team would have to get season ticket holders and the season progresses and would have to get all their attendance from walk ups. Ballsillie would still be interested even if it meant keeping the team in Arizona for one more season, i'm sure of it.

  • It's plausible.

Think back to how quickly the NFL and NBA made emergency plans to reschedule games after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. In the case of the NFL...you're talking changes that were made two weeks prior to the start of the regular season.

Logistically it's entirely possible. Whether it happens or not is an entirely different case.

My god...the sun is shining and it's not raining. Off to redeem thyself!

Not only that, but what about the schedule that's already been made up and in what division not to mention conference would they play in. This year sure looks like a write off for Balsillie and his plans.... maybe next year.

    If he's still interested.
