I have a leak in my apartment bedroom ceiling. The water collected in the lighting fixture and is dripping?

It's 12:24 AM and I just noticed that I have water dripping out of my apartment bedroom lighting fixture. What should I do? I just called the super, but it is 12:30 am so he hasn't answered. Thanks in advance.

Update:

I just moved in too :( So much for due diligence. Just a couple of days ago, there was sewage backing up into my bathtub everytime I flushed the toilet or turned on the bathroom sink.

You live on the eastern seaboard, don't you, or phili, because these are the only two places in the entire country that you would have this problem. Sorry, but I'm going to go for a nice relaxing walk in my suburban Iowa neighborhood with my mp3 player and enjoy the night, but first I'm gonna finish my beer. If it makes you fees any better, I just got let go from my $70k per year job due to downsizing, so that oughta help. Good luck bro. -john in Iowa

Do not turn on the light. Remove the fixture and empty the water. Contact the super/repairman as soon as possible. Do people live above you? If so, inform them of the problem as well.

That's about all you can do for the moment is keep tying to get in touch with the owner/property manager of the apt. If he/she does not respond in a reasonable amount of time then you will have to force the issue to have it fixed. It is the owners responsibility to fix it. I can't believe the owner let the roof go so long it reached the stage of a leak. Also, as we all know water and elec do not mix. Don't touch the fixture.

If you know where your fuse box is, turn the switch off for the lights or just turn all the power off.

And do not touch the lighting or anything.

You may just have to wait it out until maintenance comes.

Turn on the light and examine the problem!
