Can I do Anything? Can I do anything about them not honoring a doctors order?

I pulled something in my back at the gym. saw doctor and he gave me a light duty slip for no lifting or brnding. My employer did not honor the slip. Back got 1000 times worse. Went back to doctor again, gave me meds and another silp stating same and set appointment with specialist. Employer still did not honor doctors note. Went to specialist, took erays and MRI...Gave me another note for light duty..once again employeer did not honor...results came back and needed posible surgery...gave me another note....not honored again... back got worse, saw doctor and he said it should not have gotten worse and asked if my employer put me on light duty...told him NO...He called my HR Dept. then after all that 2 1/2 months later I was put on light duty but got so bad needed to have the surgery. Can I do anything about them not honoring a doctors order? Might not have needed surgery if I was first placed on light duty as doctor had ordered.

Update:

I did tell them that i couldnt and was told if i wasnt going to work then go home!

Update 2:

I was told work comp. would not honor due to I injured it at gym first.

Several things should have happened here. When you brought back the slip calling for light duty, your employer should have honored the doctor's note and put you on light duty. When you saw they were not going to abide by the note, you should have called your doctor right away and let him know. He should have made the call immediately to your employer. If you have a company clinic with a nurse, they should have bee notified as well. There are attorneys who will take work related injury claims. You might look up attorney and see what your options are. Take Care.

    Yup. contact workman's comp.

Add - Oh no, you were told wrong. If your employer worsened a pre existing condition after being given a note from the doctor they are totally responsible for that.

That is the whole reason for the light duty in the first place. Get a lawyer.

You are required to have some personal responsibility; you could simply say "No, sorry I can't as I have a back problem that will worsen if I were to do that task"

    They can fire you.

What you're saying is you disobeyed doctor's orders and made yourself worse. You are saying you did not work safely. It also sounds like you did not follow appropriate procedures regarding your work injuries.
