It is illegal for numerous reasons.

First, and foremost, most people believe Marijuana to be a "gateway" drug. Which, basically means that it leads to otehr experimentation with more serious and dangerous drugs in the future.

People tend to argue that if weed was legal in America that drug related crimes, such as driving while impaired, possesion, sale and distribution, drug trafficking, etc. would sky rocket.

So the police can find a reason to arrest you. So the state can get more money off fines.

All the people who don't smoke it, but who have to always financially support their relatives who do smoke it, make sure it stays illegal.

Because of the belief that it is a gateway drug. I don't believe it is though.
