Regarding the 2012 elections?
Let's say for the sake of argument, that Colin Powell or heck, even Condoleezza Rice ran against Obama in the 2012 elections and Powell or Rice won. Would people still say that Powell or Rice voters are racist because they voted against Obama?
Oh, and "they won't win" or "the wouldn't win" are not valid answers. I'm asking "what if", not "when they win".
Nancy, do the words "for the sake of argument" or "what if" mean anything to you?
I'm seeing some very interesting answers here. Keep it up!
Mike D you bring up an excellent point, but you can't deny that it would be an issue should a scenario like that come up.
Thanks Luke for NOT reading the question. Does "what if" not mean anything?
Luke, thanks for getting back with me and sorry for the assumption. I still feel the question hasn't been answered, and honestly, as much as I would like to believe it's no, I personally don't believe that would be the case. I still believe people would cry racism on some kind of level.
Also, I wouldn't limit the racist presumption to just Republicans, otherwise I wouldn't associate myself with the ones I know.
I don't agree 100% with what you have to say, but I see what you're saying. Again, I appreciate you getting back to the question.

I believe that Powell and Rice would the be target of the venomous rhetoric that Obama suffers now. There are people in this country that cannot handle a president that is nonwhite. Clinton was far more liberal than Obama is and he did not suffer the disrespect that Obama suffers now and he was well known as a philanderer. Nobody called Clinton Hitler or Marxist when he tried to improve health care. Nobody feared Clinton speaking to school children as they fear Obama. Those people are people who don't what their kids to see Obama as the leader of this country.
He is the first nonwhite president and he has to persevere just as Jackie Robinson persevered, or Thurgood Marshall persevered as trailblazer. They all have horror stories like Obama will have.

No racist calls at all. However, in the case of Rice, the attack would be no leadership experience at all. That would not work with Colin Powell, since, like Dwight Eisenhower (the most recent President to never hold elected office at any level before the Presidency), he rose to the highest rank in the Army---four-star general---and cut his leadership skills in the Army (albeit Eisenhower cut his during World War 2 and Powell during the Cold War).
If Powell won, it would be ho-hum (he's a black version of Dwight Eisenhower). If Rice won though, the attacks of no experience would begin...or have already begun.

Didn't you guys say Colin Powell was a racist because he endorsed and voted for Obama? And also, If Colin Powell endorses Obama what does that tell you about Obama? I guess Obama is a good pick after all, hum!!
Edit:
I read the question, but am not ignorant to its presumption. Truth is that you already know the answer. And you know it is no.
People don't say republican are racist, republican say a mouth full all by them selves.

If Powell were to declare he was running in 2012 it would be the easiest vote I ever cast. He is a man I respect to the utmost who served his country with honor for over 20 years in the Army. It would be great to call him President.
Of course though I am racist since I did not vote for Obama

If the candidates of both sides are the same race. I don't see how it can be considered racist. So my answer it no. So if the Republican party does choose an African-American candidate to run against Obama it will be a normal election with Ideology as the main thing.

I can comfortably guarantee you with 100% certainty that Democrats indeed WOULD claim voting for Powell or Rice is a racist choice.
Source(s): This is not my first batch of Democrats. ALL opposition is ALWAYS said to be based at least in part, on racism. - chicagonlfLv 41 decade ago
I that Colin Powell would be the choice, a he holds more experience, that is what we needed, and failure will resort to other options, racism and the like. Obama really has NO experience in anything. Well he can read what is put in front of him.

Some on the far left have called both of these individuals slurs based upon the title of a famous novel and a famous brand of syrup. So, I think that some would indeed call non-blacks racist and refer to any black supporters by the name of the novel or the brand of syrup.

I would have voted for either one of them.
The experience Collin Powell had in the military would have done it for me and the fact that they both had more gvt. exp. than Obama ever will would have been enough for me.
I don't think anyone should be allowed to be President of our USA if the never served in our military. So in that case,Rice would have been out.

Those two won't run. If Powell ran, the racism would stop because he is part Jamaican.
