How do I track ovulation via cervical mucus?
I'm not TTC or anything. Quite the opposite actually. My cycles seem to be out of whack, so I want to be able to track my ovulation so I can better keep track of when my periods are due so I can better avoid pregnancy. What does the cervical mucus look like when a woman is ovulating? What is the texture, the color, ect?

During fertile times there is an abundance of CM and it is usually white or watery and creamy. During ovulation CM will have an egg white consistency and be very thick and stretchy.
CM can be very difficult to track because it varies so much and it can be a difficult indicator as to whether you are in a fertile time or not. Usually you will be in a fertile time period if you have quite a bit of CM and it is very thick and stretchy, and you will not be in a fertile time period if the CM is thin and tacky. However, sometimes you can have fertile-like CM and not be ovulating. I have had fertile-like CM a few days before my period would start. The only day I can be sure of being fertile is the day I'm ovulating (with that egg white CM), but that isn't much help since you can get pregnant a few days before ovulation and within a day after ovulation.
Some women have ovulation pains, but some do not. I can usually tell when I'm ovulating because I get mild twinges on one side or mild cramps. Even then, though, it can be difficult to track down when you are ovulating or close to it.
CM isn't very reliable when it comes to preventing pregnancy. Many methods of determining ovulation (BBT, CM, cervical position) usually determine when ovulation is occurring or about to occur, but this isn't very helpful when you are fertile several days before.
When I was younger and trying to avoid pregnancy I would just avoid sex completely from days 8 to 19 of my cycle to try and make sure I didn't have sex during my fertile period. I never got pregnant.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Forget all of the above solutions. The reality is that all of the approaches you're making use of to verify your ovulation are very subjective and insensitive . The system is known as" The Billing's" system and the ones making use of it to check out to not conceive( i.e. as a contraceptive degree) have a failure cost of approximately forty% i.e. four out of 10 females making an attempt NOT to get pregnant do. That indicates how correct it's! If you're bleeding each 14 days then you're now not freeing eggs some thing your temperature chart tells you and you are going to under no circumstances get pregnant except you both go back to a common four week cycle or search reputable recommendation

You should read Toni Weschler's book Taking Charge of Your Fertility or take a class to learn the proper way to do this. The book is all about the Fertility Awareness Method and you'll learn so much about yourself that way.
